heya guys,

i need some advice here. I am going to be moving down to the west coast, hokitika to be exact. I want to secure myself an apprenticeship as a diesel mechanic down there, i have a diploma in mech eng, and a degree in industrial design, and i have experience working on small to medium sized diesels, and tractors, as well as plenty of experience working on small petrol engines. So, how do i actually go about applying for an apprenticeship? The mrs has a job down there as a plunket nurse, and i want to get a job too so we can start new life down the beautiful west coast, but i absolutely have no idea how to go about getting an apprenticeship. Any advice, comments or offers is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Peace

Arvin

stevensons.
Caterpillar run appreintice programs but require some form of previous training

Hays do aswell. making the step to the mining gear and/or forestry gear ensure you have your relevant site safe and osh certificates for physically working in these areas makes you more appealing to prospective employees.

sounds like you already have most of your tools which is a plus aswell, make sure thats on your cv.

May pay to start with a civil company that deals with earth moving gear as it will be easier to get a foot in the door there then into the mining side of stuff. But that's if you want to work on mobile plant, if you wanted to focus on design and re enginnering work trans diesel were looking for a field service technician not paying huge money though, i get paid more to drive excavators then they were offering.

You could try http://www.nzqa.govt.nz/ and see if they have a list of companies that are active in training apprentices, then go door knocking...

Also this one
