Vitara fuel consumption

My vitara is doing 11.7 L/100km which I think is way over what it should be for a lightweight 1.6L? It's got nothing in it apart from two front seats! Carpet etc all gone

Has 30s, extractors. Don't drive it like a nutcase, 80-100 on the open road, gentle on it round town.

Engine is G16A, head is off a G16B.

Truck is a 91 although has had a lot of work not sure how much is original. Engine almost certainly not.

Had a top end rebuild about six months ago so all new plugs etc then.

But it's a thirsty beast - is this normal for these trucks? If not what could I look at doing that's not going to cost a fortune?

Doesn't sound too bad to me, the bigger tyres will suck the juice. Try a set of standard tyres on it, will probably be heaps better.

sounds about right. They really aren't all that economical. Alright for a petrol 4x4 but not for a 1.6. Sounds like it could be a little on the high side though. Last time I worked mine out it was about 9.0ish L/100km from memory

ill get about 12.5 km/L if 100% open road driving

8-10 km/L around town

and anywhere down to 6km/L offroading.

16 valve 1.6L auto

shit that is thirsty my worn out 3.8 commy station wagon full of tools does 11-12L around town and about 8L on the highway, might as well dump the 1.6 and throw a commy motor in it if your getting that sort of economy :D

Have a look at http://www.fuelly.com and you can compare it to other Vitaras.

Actually looking at fuely.com doesn't seem to be that unusual as a few of you said.

Oh well will just stick with it, can't be arsed changing anything and don't drive much anyway (take the girlfriend's Caldina if we're going far)
