I have question in relation to my 1990 Nissan Safari. After putting in an aftermarket philips powersupply convereter and installing an Alpline headunit - the headunit resets everytime the ignition is off for a period of 1min or longer. Has anyone had this issue before? (The same thing happened off the factory powersupply too). I've heard the safaris have bad earthing, so i'm yet to try earth the headunit and powersupply straight to the battery, currently only the powersupply is earthed on the battery.

Thoughts?

Is the Phillips unit a 24 to 12v reducer? If it is, is that wired to a constant + supply? Constant + and Switched + off the back of the head unit the right way around? If its resetting after a short period with the key off, its loosing the constant + supply to the head unit....

I had similar issues with my head unit in my safari.

I've done that, the headunit won't even power up properly when they are the wrong way round. I bought an iso harness and had to swap the red and yellow on the iso to headunit.

Already spent hours and hours on this. The headunit works fine in my old mans truck (doesn't reset after a long period time) - I tried his headunit in my truck also, and it resets just like mine. I've used two different powersupplies and everything.

This is something more technical.

Wish it was that simple.

either way it is still loosing its constant + otherwise it wouldnt be doing what is doing.

if you have tried swapping your switched +ve and constant +ve then it sound like the 24 to 12v converter is not hooked up to a constant power supply

well if i swap the wires constant and accessory wires round the headunit doesn't power up properly (gets itself into a loop of turning on and off) and of course is constantly on no matter where you truck key is unless you turn it off manually.

I took a new 24v tapping from the battery to the powersupply converter. I've used two different powersupplies and same thing. The factory one causes the exact same issue. I have thought the earths may be the cause of the problem, but I now have the headunit and powersupply both earthed to the battery. This seemed to help a little, but no real improvement.

I wish it was simple as one of the above, but it's more puzzling than this. Surely this must have happened to someone before.

I may have to spend $160.00 at Auto sound, but seems like a ridiculous cost just to have the headunit not reset.

as a test run a 12v wire from your batt to the memory wire on the unit. then turn off the truck and see what happens.
where in nz are you? maybe some one could come round or you go the there place?

Have you got a multimeter?
If so, probe the wires to see what is actually being delivered, when.

I'm in Belfast, Christchurch.

I'll do some voltage tests and post again. Might try that 12v battery idea and see what happens too.

Can certainly provide beers, need them on this mystery anyway. lol

Old mans going to have a look this weekend with his voltage meter with a needle to check for any needle jumps. If no good beers on me, victory or no victory.

I'm convinced it's the accessory feed that's causing the issue, not the memory as unsual as that sounds.

Does the convertor feed anything else? I think the factory one feeds the dash instruments. Possably a short somewhere draging the power supply down. Just thinking out loud. Sing out if you want another pair of eyes.

At the moment I have the new converter running the headunit only.

I have my cbs are running off the factory powersupply. I have noticed something unsual with one of the cbs. If you picture the cb turned off, and the ingnition key off - then when turning the key to accessory it causes the cb lcd screen to flicker on and off (even though the cb is off). It's like its getting a surge? - This on the factory converter.

Will do, I'll attack with the multimeter on Saturday. Draw some diagrams how it's setup. If no good result - beers may be a better option.

All fixed. But the fix still doesn't make sense to me.
Swapped the main power feed into the powersupply with the accessory feed into the powersupply and it seemed to work. But it didn't work if I did it from the headunit end. Now the wires don't exactly match what the diagram shows on the powersupply, oh well atleast it's fixed now. :p
