what sort of rpm is the difference? i have a drop saw here, which would be rather handy if i could cut steel with it too.

Drop saws mostly have plastic bits that melt when you cut metal. unless your using cold cut blades.

cutting from metal to wood should be fine you will need to factor in rpm design/construction if you are going the other way around ie cutting wood and want to cut metal.

the bearings and construction of wood based saws is a lot lighter than metal saws thats why metal saws a loads dearer

you can cut one or two bits of steel but any heavy cutting will result in bearing and gear failure

You can pick up a metal cut off saw on Trade me for under $200. That too me is far cheaper than wrecking your other drop saw and having no saw.
Use a hacksaw, its better for those little arms...

I've often thought about this, since I don't cut a huge amount except for little projects I always use my angle grinder, and of course always end up a little off course. Surely you can buy/make some sort of mitre box/drop arm to hold an angle grinder? Would help when attempting to do angle cuts to make something up too..much more accurate than the old eye-rometer :P

^^ Used one of those work a few times, work quite well but the hinge starts to loosen up a bit of use with a 9 inch grinder in it

You would want it to be pretty substantial. I'm not sure that I would trust 'Super works' with a spinning angle grinder. Where is that infamous ORE pic of Sig's? The one with a huge grinder-gashed leg.

Is the blade on this saw the right way around?
No wonder it grabs your wood :)
