Wanted 4.88 Gears for C200 diff (D21 non-turbo diesel)

Post by lax2wlg »

Hi guys
I'm looking for a a 4.88 ratio ring & pinion for the C200 differential, as fitted to the rear of 1987-1990 NON turbo diesel & 4-cyl petrol Terrano/Navara 4x4 (transaxle code CA48).

It's the Salisbury style differential, also used in the front of the MK patrol. Attached is a photo for identification.

Reason I need this is I am upgrading the front differential in my diesel Terry to an R200 from a V6 in order to fit an ARB locker. Only problem is my current rear gearing is 4.88, and the R200 is only available in 4.3 and 4.6 ratios. Luckily however, the ring and pinion gears are interchangeable between the C200 and R200 diffs!

So my plan is to regear the R200 front with 4.88 gears from a C200 rear. I want to stick with 4.88 ratio, because I think this offers a pretty damn good crawl ratio. Even with 33" tyres, in 1st low you can get out and walk faster than the truck. I'll get a build thread of my truck up soon.

Please PM me if you can help, once again, ring & pinion stamped 4.88 from a C200 rear diff. CA48 transaxle code, 1987-1990ish D21.

Thanks very much,
Josh

Hey Josh, might be worth checking nissan caravans (E24 chassis) as they often have the ca48 rear diff.
Let me know how you get on squeazing the r200a in where the r180a sat. I'm doing the same swap on mine when I get a chance. I believe you just gotta space engine up 10mm. Let me know tho :D

Hi Nath thanks for the info, I'll check that out.

Yeah the swap should be interesting but by all accounts pretty straightforward. I have a diff drop bushing kit which will drop it by 3/8" of an inch, also helping w CV angles. May have to jack the engine up slightly too.

Will need to use the entire R200 front, ie CVs, steering knuckles etc

Decent amount of work, but will be a pretty stout front end by the time its all done!

None of those in stock
I would look at buying your R180, 4.875:1 R&P :P
Saves having to get a whole front diff.

Cheers,
I keep looking for the loose nut behind the wheel, but I can't find it!!

Hi Siba cheers, I'll let you know when the diff is out re; the R&P. I'll also have some 27 spline Milemarker manual hubs with about 250km use.

I have the ARB & R200 sitting here, so I'm keen to get the 4.8 gears and get it all done and out of the way!

Cheers
