I am used to AT's, that float across terrain and hope for the best when ya hit sticky clay.

So after buying a set of these a few weeks ago and on the advice of the tyre guy to "let them dig" i decided i go find a big arsed mud hole to play in....

It was rather disappointing. Why? even after sinking the mistral up to the door handles i still didn't need the winch.

It's an odd feeling knowing the tyres are digging, thinking as the driver your just making the situation worse :? but once they hit the bottom the truck surged forward and clawed straight out of the hole.

Check out all the wrecked 4wd's at turners auction. Many of them have kl71's. they are rubbish. on and off road.

That doesn't really say much to be honest. i see a lot of wrecked cars too. doesn't make them all honda's

and as for being rubbish i dragged a nissan patrol 6 kms in soft sand/high tide off south beach wanganui with them after he did his clutch in.

better then the maxxis i had on my rodeo they just glogged if you hit clay or wet loam and turned into slicks.

you guys obviously havent used them

The Kumho Road Venture MT KL71 was the joint winner of 4x4 Magazine's 'ultimate tyre test' to establish the best mud‑terrain tyre on the UK market. It shared top honours with a BFGoodrich, beating offerings from Goodyear, Wildcat, Maxxis, Cooper, INSA and Pirelli by a significant margin.

Interesting comments and I don't agree with a lot of them!

I have run the 31" KL-71s as my normal tyres off & on road for about 4 years. I also have a set of 32" Simex's for the deep mud.

I used to run BFG's both MT & All Terrain.

I find the Kumho much quieter that the MT and way better handling on road than either BFG. Under harsh braking on a wet road the Kumho is HUGELY safer than either BFG. Same with driving off from stationary over a set of giveway/stop lines on a wetroad. The BFG's used to light up easily.
Offroad I find them similar to the MT, both in soft shingle and mud.
In soft deep snow they are similar as well.

Mileage wise, I find the KL-71 gets worn to the point of f all use offroad after about 30,000 km's. I drive a KZJ-71 Prado with about 2.4 tonnes onboard normally, and onroad I drive it more like a car. It often sits on 120 to 140km/h, and gets pushed through many windy corners. Yes the 1st gen BFG's lasted way longer. The 2nd gen ones weren't much better than the -71's

What's with the comment about crashed vehicles and -71's?
It just means lots of vehicles use them now cos there is a good sales team here, and they come at a good price if you hunt around.

I'm in need of another set now and will buy the same again.

I've ran them on my hilux and my prado onroad, and they are not to bad, handle well and are nice and quiet, seem to wear quite well too. But offroad up here in the Waikato they are shit, ran them beadlocked, and aired down to 6-8lb and they were almost dangerous on the bush tracks we use. Found their selfcleaning almost nonexistent unless you dialled in a big dose of right foot. Was expecting a lot more from them.......

Obviously the three work vehicles that had them fitted by the lease company that until 2 weeks ago I drove daily means I never used them.

I personally prefer BFG KM2 anyday for day to day use.. The comment regarding them featuring on the majority of wrecked 4wd's at turners recently either means they are popular and their owners cant drive. Or they may have contributed to the vehicles demise. An observation only.
