I finding my standard old front head light's in me oldish vitara being very dim at night,
Even full beam isn't that bright compared too my newer honda accord euro daily which have super bright standard light.

I'm left wondering if any of you good foke have ever changed out the old head light bulb's and replaced with the brighter and better HID bulb's or if their is a switch over kit too HID light bulb's available?

I think it'll really help with visibility whilst night driving espically offroad

I've put a set in my hilux, easy as to do and they work really well but be warned they're not street legal.

I have done the same thing, much better than the amber lights.

But it does not compare to my 40" lightbar tho

Really did you fail a WOF cause of them? i wouldent mind doing it to my headlight's an blinding all the little puenie car heading towards me nah joke's but keen as to aim for stuned mullet possum out on the bush road's

haha nice, im looking into some HID spoties on me bull bar.
I'm not to sure what im looking at when i do find some on trademe in term's of the spec's, all i know is im trying to get them at a reasonalbly feesable price, guess i dont want to end up buying some cheep as light that wont last long tho.

Any ways this is tty random, but today i was heading down to that Hobsonville point building site or the old Hobsonville air base with my cuzzin in Auckland to have a blat in the wet too test me new tire's out.
As we arrived we where mins off from being hit by the tornado that went throw the place an took a few live's.
Far i must say i'v seen some wearied an wonderful's but this had to take the cake an cheery on top, for real's the place looked like a war site, tree's uprooted an throwen into house's an car's, roof top's missing, road's blocked by tree's, rubbish every where, muttly dog's going throw the rubbish lol it was intripped.
We had got there to go do skids and try the new tire's out and found our self's helping out where needed untill the cop's and firetrucks showed up, was kind of gutted as we had planed too go there all week knowing the rain was going to moist the place up for the truck but oh well.
It's a good place to go to test out your new mods to your truck or even go for a quick 20min offroad blat then back on your merry way.
It's great cause ya can go there on your own an dont realy have to worrie about needing a tow out as their is only so much you can do there and it not many parts there there where you'l find your self getting stuck during summer that is.
Any ways thats ma random for the day, i just got back so thort ill throw it out there......

HID bulbs are not compatible with regular lamps, as this combination greatly increases levels of glare to other road users, and therefore HID bulbs must not be retro- fitted to housings not designed for use with HID bulbs.

I've had no problems getting a WOF with my headlights.

I found a HID conversion kit on trademe, $99 buks so im keen for it

I've had WOF's for years on uncertified vehicles, doesn't make it legal just means you've got a dodgy WOF

yeap, cops can still pink/green sticker you if they notice.

They also suck for oncoming cars as the light is not in a proper beam as teh standard lens do not work with the HID light. So you blind teh #### out of the oncoming drivers making it more dangerous for you and others.

I simply bought some decent narva bulbs for mine and it made a huge difference. Nice white light and heaps more of it.

I 2nd this!

Stardard bulbs have been fine for years . If you can't see far enough up the road - slow down !
IMHO modern cars headlights are way to bright for on coming traffic on NZ country roads .Given the bumpy nature of our roads these super bright lights constantly blind other drivers .

I with the above couple of posts. Go with higher quality halogen bulbs and a loom upgrade, so they get the power they need. The factory looms are light (no pun intended) and when the wire gets old and a bit corroeded around the terminals and the like it gets worse.

Polish the lens up too.

years ago when i had my escudo i had the same issue, i ended up putting 90w/80w Artic Blues in it, and it was seriously night and day difference. they now do a bulb which has more light than artic blue's so i'd be looking at them.
but you will have to put an aftermarket headlight relay into it or you will burn out your combo switch from the added current draw.
