we have a ln167 at work thats just had the bottom end rebuilt(ran a big end bearing).

got it all hooked up etc and fired it up....it idled sweet for about 1min, then they gave it a few more revs to about 1000rpm, and it starting knocking its arse off,so it was shut down quickly...

question is:

could this happen if the injector pump pulley was 180deg out when the new belt was put on?

cos i know the motor couldnt be put at tdc when it was stripped so pump could still be out?????

are all the pullys keyed? can it even be out like that?

coulda stuffed up the injector lines no idea if this would cause knocking sound

also if it ran fine for a minute that would suggest that the diesel system is correct.......

now who put the bearings in :(

i think if it was 180 out it wouldn't run at all.what was done to fix the run bearing?machined crank and bearings to match?

got it sorted, the cambelt had jumped 2 teeth on the crank..

reset the belt, and now shes running like a charm...
had us shitting ourselves for a second or two...

just had to think about it overnight, and came to the conclusion it was extreme diesel knock...
