80 Series 1hdt Injector Pump Issues

Post by suzolla »

Hi,
As per title have got issues with my injector pump and after suggestions.
Starts fine
Idles fine
Seems to drive okay when foot on accelerator
When in neutral can rev the engine and will hold a constant revs with constant accel.
When idling can blip the accel and it will return to idle.

Problem is if you are driving along and then slow down and come to a stop engine dies when you put the clutch in unless the accel is quikly used to keep engine going.
Also when stationary as said above can blip the accel no problem but if it is held at say 2000rpm and accel is let go the engine dies unless it is given some more accel to keep it going.

Don't think it is the governor, I think there is a problem with the fueling, thought maybe an air leak in the fuel supply pipe so set up a small diesel tank above the engine directly connected to the fuel hose to the pump, bypassed the filter. Also connected the return line to the small tank.
Started fine, revved fine but still died after being revved.

Then noticed that there was no fuel comming back through the return hose which seems odd.

What are your thoughts on what is causing this.
Baffled

Cheers
Tim

Check the out banjo. Small hole might be blocked.
If ok, then the lift side of the injection pump may crook. Can be confirmed the the aid of a rotary fuel pump.
Blockage in tank could be cause too.

Cheers
I keep looking for the loose nut behind the wheel, but I can't find it!!

i had similar issue on my old 70 series, check all your fuel lines are tight, simple it may seem, but it caused major headaches to find it, and when we did it was only a 1/4 turn from tight, but that was enuf....

worth a look.....
i used to Cruise, now i PATROL
