i have one in an RN46 hilux,im using a holden monaro 350ci radiator and 2 subaru 2 speed fans off a legacy. when the radiator isnt full of mud it works great

Or buy the biggest alloy radiator you have room for. And big v8 fans

i've got a 95-ish ikz prado one in my LJ71, using one big fan off a taurus and a flat shroud. haven't had any overheats so far, been having 29 degree days here recently. Using 70amp wiring so i can piggyback another fan in if needed.

broke the first rad by not checking clearances properly. thought the mounts were the same, there's an extra chassis brace on mine, bottom tank was touching it. had nowhere to expand to and cracked the bottom off the cores. $300 mistake in 15mins of running.

first fan was one of those budget brand 18inch ones on the stock 3 core LJ71 one, didn't do **** all.

I run a 1UZ in my LJ71 Prado also, using the standard Prado Radiator with a Cap put in the top. The 1UZ is running a viscous fan and keeps it plenty cold enough, even with a half ass shroud.

as others have already eluded above not only do you need the biggest radiator with the maximum surface area and volume you can get in there you also need maximum air flow from the biggest high cfm fan and shroud as you can squeeze in there to cool the radiator.... dosent matter how big the radiator is if there isnt enough air going through it its not going to keep your engine cool

Lextreme site recommends fans with 1500cfm davies craig ones are good, could also look at plumbing in a mini radiator or two ie heater core

also heard that running a separate tank to add more capacity inline with main rad pipes also makes a huge difference

Run the factory hydraulic fan. We used a Toyota Cressida diesel radiator in this.

Hey just out of curiosity and totally off topic
What does this setup tow like?, could be just the angle, but looks like a lot of weight on the draw-bar?...

Tows good like this, there is not a huge amount of weight on the drawbar. We experimented once, and only once, with moving the Hilux back a bit. Towing out of Rotorua going to Whangarei Winch Challenge, we decided to move the Hilux back about 6" because we thought there might be too much weight on the drawbar. After about 10km we stopped and moved it back forward to its original positions before it killed us.

As far as cooling I went for the biggest Diesel surf rad, and 2 slimline Craig Davies fans to get the max powar! My line of thinking as there's not a lot of room, you`re better off with a bigger Rad with smaller fans than a small radiator with big fans, that said I am keeping my Aircon, and cant mount a fan on the front of the radiator.
