I've got a runva ewx9500 and was wondering if anyone has set one up with a remote free spool, ie. in cabin controlled. I've been trying to think of ways of doing it but its a bit tricky because the free spool lever spins a full 180 degrees. If it only spun 90 then it would be possible with a push/pull cable. Anyone have any ideas or done it before? I've also noticed that the lever doesn't have to be all the way around before it will free spool so could maybe set it up to not spin the whole way, but I wonder what sort of damage that might do to the winch????
P.s I'm wanting to do this as the winch is mounted fairly deep behind the bumper and free spool is hard to reach!
Remote free spool on runva winch?

Re: Remote free spool on runva winch?
surely theres a way to do it with a lever. maybe have an L shaped bracket, with the cable/pushrod hooked to one end, and have a rod connecting to the switch.

Hopefully Michael the runva agent might see this and tell us how it is done in the vitara?
Was thinking it might be possible with a throttle body linkage off an auto that has two cables on it, one way for free and one way for not free?. Bit hory tho haha

Re: Remote free spool on runva winch?
I too have been looking at doing the same. 1 thing I have been worried about though is the knob that is turned is just a steel bit of bar in an alloy housing. If there was a lever that an actuator pushed/pulled, you would end up with a fair bit of side load on the shaft which would chew out the alloy over time.
An idea I had was to do this. Make a boss with a slot in it that goes down its length through the centre. half way down its length drill a hole in the side for a pivot point. Then all we need is a lever that goes in the boss that fits into the free spool clutch of the winch.
Then it should be easy to connect a small actuator to the lever.
Here is a rough sketch that may help out.

use a simple cable, is on a cam system.
only needs to more a few mils to operate.
cheap easy, and mechanical.
