Right!! It's time get a locker for my 130 Surf. It's got LSD rear, open front, fixed hubs, IFS & A.D.D.
My previous vehicle (Isuzu MU) I put an auto locker in the front. Mostly because of it's poor articulation of the IFS. Was impressive where that thing would go. Only real downside was the self centering steering.
With my Surf I also struggle with the lack of articulation of the IFS and loose traction as soon as one front wheel comes off the ground.
Alot of people say put a locker in the back axle first, I agree that would be best for solid front axles but disagree when it comes to IFS.
Pretty keen to go air locker rather than auto locker, therefore I set about trying to price an ARB air locker (RD90) for the front. To be honest the prices are crazy!! I've been pricing up to lockers (one for a mates Hilux) to reduce freight costs.
Quote from local ARB dealer (DSL Automotive Napier) was $1886 each plus freight, comes with free CKSA12 compressor
Quote from ARB Caboolture, Australia was NZD$1531 each pick up from store (I have a friend who lives nearby) but no compressor offered.
And on Ebay they're available from USA at NZD$1310 delivered, excluding compressor.
What are people opinions, specially with the IFS, fixed hubs & A.D.D system. And can anyone suggest alternatives.

Re: Toyota Surf quoted ARB Air Locker prices
try suzulla on this site,he imports them, good price, good to deal with

Re: Toyota Surf quoted ARB Air Locker prices
Ive got autolocka in the rear of mine .....best mod i did to mine other than the recent SAS.
I think is a bit of waste on money putting air locker in front....better to put the money towards SAS.

Re: Toyota Surf quoted ARB Air Locker prices
just remember, you can get em cheaper overseas, but if anything goes wrong dont be expecting your local arb dealer to be coming to the rescue, and good luck with the overseas supplier backing any warrenty. ok so maybe nothing will go wrong, BUT, for such a pricey item i'd be paying a bit extra and buying local with the knowledge of having backup

Re: Toyota Surf quoted ARB Air Locker prices
Thanks for the positive comments.
Regarding my comments below I don't have a vested interest as I don't have any RD90's
Regarding
I would be very surprised if you could land one for that price, just looked at ebay.
ebay cost US$996
freight US$112
equals US$1108
factor in exch rate equals about NZ$1350
factor in GST equals about NZ$1550
factor in customs charges equals about NZ$1600 to 1650.
Of course if you are lucky and don't get charged GST you are better off.
$1890 isn't too bad if you are getting a comp as well, think this only until Xmas.
ARB's only recently went up in the US, used to be able to get them for US$835 which was a lot better
Just making sure youre are aware of all the possible costs before you make a decision.
Cheers
Tim

Coz you asked

I'm with tallsam and think you'd probably get more overall bennefit out of a SAS swap in the front rather than trying to stick with the IFS it dosent matter what you do it'll allways be the archillies heel on your truck..... dont get me wrong though by all means then throw an ARB and some 30 spline superset longs into the SAS once you've done it
