Hi All,

Reviews of a prado 90?

Im looking at getting a 1997 Prado 90 series, lifting it and putting it on 33s.
It has a 1KZ-TE engine, manual box.

Are the prados any good? Also, what needs to be done to fit 33?

Cheers

90's still have head cracking issues (like other 1kz's) worth doing the dump pipe and big exhaust as well, also centre diff lock is a known weak point on these, permanent 4wd as well. lots of plastic bits on the body to break as well

better off with a earlier 70 series one with beam axle maybe?

90 series are cars with diesel engine problems

stay away from 1kzs if you can help it

soild front and rear axles are more suited for 4wd

an alternative could be a 80 series land cruiser

or a nissan patrol cheaper and more reliable but slowwwww

also to put 33 on a prado ya may have to trim the body a bit witch you may not want to do on a new truck

A few of the above issues are correct but I have 1 and love it (not used and my main offroad vehicle) If your intending on doing pretty rough trails then ide go for a 78 or 80 series cruiser but as far as a good mix then these are great. You wont get it on 33's though as they need 16" rims. A mate of mine has his on 265 75 R16's and with a OME lift they rub a tiny bit on full lock. To fix the above issues just beam it...........easy to say I know but it fixes everything. It looses the transfer case and you end up with a solid front.

Anyway hope this doesnt confuse you more :)

I have one on 285/75/18 MT's (slightly over 33"). Ctr diffs are weak as shit. I wouldn't buy one with the intention of being able to use it as a club truck, but for safari style wheeling I guess that would be okay. Mine is only to get the trailer queen closer to the action.
