When i got my vit, the first thing I looked at was bigger tyres and as you all know, for anything around 30-31" you really need to do a lift of some sort.

I posted a question about lifts and got a tone of good advice from members here, and in the end because of alot of the drama which can be experienced with body lifts (gear stick mod, fuel lines, brake lines, raising bumpers and most of all WOF/CERT considerations) in the end I decided to get larger springs and not have to worry about all of thoes other things.....the springs still gave me about 1.5"

I just went and got a VTNZ WOF....the guys there are overall quite picky and this time to be fair failed me on rear stop light not having at least 75% working area, and rear tail light out..and because my tyres stuck out past the body.....anyhow.... i thought i would hit him up about the body lift and said " hey if i had body lift, what are you looking at and how high can i go" he basically said to me within reason they dont care about body lifts, if its made from a good quality metal or plastic and is looks safe, then they will pass it and dont worry about them.

of course this is going to be on a case by case, shop by shop basis, but it was good to hear there was no driving force to rid 4x4's of body lift kits.

Ive been looking online at bit4vits and see alot more of the lift kits, body lift, spring spacers etc are coming out in black also... for a long time there was only ORANGE..which just screams to the WOF testing person,

As far as I know, it does say in the virm that any body lift needs to be certed, so they are wrong. They are however not being 'picky' when they failed you for the lights and tyres, they are all perfectly legitimate failure reasons.

Edit, sorry, misread what you had written. You didn't say they were being picky by what they failed you on, rather that they were picky in general. My mistake!

Yeah, your right im sure the virm does in fact say that it needs to be certed, but not having to worry about instant WOF failure until you do so...does take the pressure off abit.

No worries, my point above about them being picky was to note that because they are picky....your not going to get through with a body lift unnoticed and if it goes through its because they are not worried or have found its to be safe.

I totally expected to fail on the lights and wide wheels and tyres, it was Dec 24th, 2 hours before closing and figured, if i get pulled up...better to have a WOF failure sheet showing that i had been, rather than nothing at all

yeah and there it is, no arguing with that ... im overall happy with my choice to go with the springs...... theres not anything in there about after market springs is there ? hope not

Trouble is there is nothing in the LVVTA thresholds that says you need a certy for body lift......kinda catch22

Out of interest, has that been a recent change?
My wof guy who knows me well mentioned it was, but noted the body lift on mine was done before the change, was safe and so passed.

if you are looking at a body lift you can go 2 inches without having to mod to much kits are only 240 of trademe, all you have to do is drill a couple of holes

Bugger, mine has been in for 7 years or so and wof dude said nup Cert, don't care how old it is
