ive been thinking about building my own turbo manifold for a while now and looking out for a cracked head to build it off to no avail. so i put my hillbilly hat on and git thunkin , td27 heads are a dime a dozen , and look pretty simillar?
is the td27 just a cut down td42? will the exhaust manifold from a 27 bolt up to the first 4 exhaust ports on a 42 or the back 4 ?
other than the location of the oil filters , ( and the lack of 2 pots) they look to be the same motor

diesel boy?

Haha, all i can offer you is that they look the same, and alot of the internals are the same (pistons etc).

The TD 27 is roughly 675cc per cyclinder and the TD42 is roughly 700cc, so i don't think the ports in the head will be much bigger. Both are a cross flow engines.

I think the main thing to check would be were the ports are positioned on the head. On the TD42, the ports are grouped on three lots of two. The head has two ports at the firewall end, a space, two ports in the middle, space, two more at the front. That might cause probs as the TD27 manifold has two groups of two, two at the firewall end, space, and then two at the front end.

Bout as much as i can offer, GQTROL might be able to offer more???

Keep us posted though, sounds like my kind of a project!!!!!! 8) 8)

Get a TD42 manifold, GQTroll has some, and make a dummy head from that, ie have some flanges cut, bolt them to the manifold then weld a brace to them to locate them. Then remove the manifold and weld pipes to them as required.

From memory, I think it is the back 2 exhaust ports that are orientated differently to the front 4. Anyway, we've got TD42 exhaust manifolds for $50 if you want to use one for the template as JTop suggested.

PM your details if you're interested.

I wouldn't cut it may warp and defeat the purpose, also you can use the manifold to give you an idea of clearances etc without having to go to the truck etc

if i get a complete one i can have it drawn up and have some profile cut. if i can find a 1 piece exhause gasket i could even do it from that .

then its just a couple of steam bends / tees and a flange for the turbo
(sounds easy if you say it fast)

Manifold weighs 12kg, so would be approx $30 Parcel Post to Sth Island.
