where to attatch a uhf aerial??

Hi. Anyone have any ideas as to how and where to mount a uhf aerial on a nissan safari? how much does the position effect radio performance?

i have mine mounted on the spare wheel rack, you need to have the tip of aerial about 100mm above truck in this position you dont cop any damage to you aerial

yep thats where you see most of 'em. some say in the middle of the roof
but i think you would rip it off a hell of alot...the best place is on the spare wheel carrier or if you get a short arial maybe on the bullbar...if you have one?Re: where to attatch a uhf aerial??

My aerial is tuned - doesn't require a ground plane - about 300mm high and mounted on my left windscreen pillar

Mine's mounted at the rear on the roof in an area that I assume was meant for a telephone aerial. It is protected from damage by the roofrack. It has one of those gps units linked into it, that aerial is mounted in the centre on the dash to find the satelites, it had to be totaly opposite the radio aerial.

I mounted my ariel in the same place, but on opposite guard to the car stereo ariel. This way I can down my stereo ariel and have them at about the same height, purely for cosmetics.
Its a stainless steel whip with coil at base, its very flexible.
Center of roof is definitly the best place for reception, but not for looks, or security on a 4x4.
I wouldnt have thought on a spare wheel carrier, or bull bars would have been a very good place for reception, as all ariels need a good ground plan to aid with good reception, but hey, we arent talking about very long range comunications here.
The idea when it comes to mounting an ariel is: have a good metal ground plan, keep the coax as short as possible.
