First one I have started for ages!!

Did a front axle swap today, about a 7 hour mission then pulled my winch bar from the shorty and fitted it to the long wheel base. Tomorrow will finish the bar fitting then move on to the new stereo system and tyre swap. Then I will see if I need to remove the rear swaybar or not.

Went to Kumeu, then came home, assembled the Lada head, mates came over for bros birthday party and then spent the rest of the night talking shit.

Tomorrow will be spent putting engine together

Shot up to the Naki after work friday. Competed in round 4 of national trials and somehow managed to get 2nd in class and 5th overall. Fawk yeah

Yup also went to trial. Bloody good day with out the constant feeling the course was trying to kill you. Obstacles were good thinking ones and the fact c class trucks were in the top five meant the course was not a massive hp required one. A d class truck won over a c class by 0.8 of a point. Bloody close result..

Hey Pedro
As one who comes from the main island, and consequently is yet to see a 4x4 trial of your type in the flesh, could you explain the differing classes please.
I enjoy trialling and the opportunity to engage the brain, so as not to kill thyself, and hopefully do well in the comp.
My trials involve geriatric cars of generally the one wheel drive type, although my next restoration is a GP race car from 1912 whivh has a single axle from hub to hub. Am looking forward to trialling that!

Well the hilux has brakes for the first time in about 4 years
all new pads, shoes, springs and cylinders even the handbrake works
also fitted gas tank, not to far away from start up now .
Just have to clean engine before i drop it in, may give it a squirt of paint depends what it looks like clean and replace sump and rocker cover gaskets.
Just waiting for my new roof lining to turn up so i can put the windows back in

Took the new addition to our 4x4 family to the beach for a bbq, ( L300 Delica 4x4 )


Then went and picked up another bloody Suzuki,

woodhill today,nice weather but bloody dry up there,had a minor disagreement with a bank so decided to reverse into it 3 or 4 times result was broken tail light and modified rear quarter,oh well time for quarter chop before they get too mangled.

Didn't look like much of a disagreement from where I was sitting, but when it is that dry, you have to do something to make it more interesting
Track 20 in reverse direction will do the trick every time

Wheel alignment is toast after a few GOOD hits. Scrubbed a few hundred K's off the front tires on the way home

Went up to woodhill today as well to test out my new tyres and lift.

Tagged along with Datsunsafari and sibainmud, was a bloody good day, drove some stuff that ive never been able to before.

It was worth every cent buying new tyres

Saw a recovery hook that had ripped off the front of a pajero put a decent little dent in the back of the suzuki it hit. Very scary stuff.

so i thought, sweet lock diff, problem solved......
but no, i lookd closer at the front diff pinion that decided to remove its self from its home last week.



as you can see its a really good paper weight now
just to make it lada complicated replacment front diff will prob have different ratio cos mine are odd ratios being a 5 speed 1700.

got the missis car cleaned, supose thats an achievment... then it raind

Up to Rallywoods for the evening to have a few beers with the lads.

Was planning on Rallywoods again today, but the 12 month wait for the caravan was over and we gave her a new home.



Oh yeah, the rest of the day was splitting a shit load of wood.

Went for a drive to pureora, had a wicked time, still lots of mud in there. got to test my new 36's love them.

Fiva engine is back together and ready to start, didn't have a battery that could start it though so might need to buy a new one tomorrow if the old one I chucked on charge fails to work

Got a free set of alloys and tyres over the weekend.

Fitted them up to the Safari they are a ugly old style star design 15x8's with a -27 offset with a set of Khumo KL71's with around 8-9mm all round 31x10.5. Kinda lucky as one of mine decided it wants to fall apart and bulge and another decided it wanted to have a slow leak.

Will hang on to them until I get some $$ for a new set.

Went to Ruakaka beach for a bit if a day out with the whanau on Saturday.

Saturday arvo was spent finishing making a ladder I've been working on and got it painted and padded up..

Sunday drove from Waiuku up to Kumeu for a look at the hotrod show, Hallatau for a beer, up to Red Beach for a swim, then up to Snells Beach to pick up a rear bullbar then back to the flat to build a fence to keep the new dog in. Busy day.

More info at: http://www.4x4trials.co.nz but to put is simply:

Classes A and B, production modified: rather standard vehicle, very few mod's alowed, No lockers, No wheel brake's. class A 0-4 cylinder, Class B 5+ cylinders.

Classes E and F, Super production vehicles, based on a factory vehicle, allowed a few more mod's than A and B (can alter suspention on one end only is main thing), can add wheel brakes to one axle only, No lockers. Class E 0-4 cylinder, class F 5+ cylinders.

Class G 0+ cylinder, Sweet Fcuk all mod's allowed. (no entry's in this class for awhile)

A,B,E,F and G still resemble a road going factory truck from the outside...

Classes C and D, Super Modified vehicles, Other than tyre and saftey limits, anything goes, tubeframe's, 4 wheel brakes, any modifications to syspention or diff's, difflocks allowed...
You get anything from suzuki's with commy V6's (like mine Doesn't look like much of a zuk any more though) right through to full tube frame, twin lockered, big HP V8 driven machine's!
Class C 0-4 cylinders, Class D 5+ cylinder.

There are some good close battle's going on in the individual classes, The overall winner's normally come from D class, but some of the C class guy's are getting up there in the results too!!
(I have huge respect for the A,B,E,F and G guy's who go out and compete with everything they got, It's scarey enough with 4 fiddles and a locker to use to get out of trouble, I wouldn't want to do it without!! lol...)

not the weekend as such, but this evening I got the Lada running.

Still the weekend in Wellington, managed to get the wiring sorted in the truck for the stereo, seats swapped over, all tyres swapped, bullbar and spot lights sorted, stupid flares removed, steering wheel swapped and a lot of interior stuff changed (cell phone & drink holders, fire extinguishers ). Still got lots to do but it's coming along well....

They are cheap as chips/likely to blow up... just like Ladas? haha

yup 2.5TD, feels strong enginewise so should be ok I think... wanders around like a drunk transvestite so will throw a wheel alignment at it and hopefully that will help.

mine's a little like that too but I blame MT tyres and the fact it's a swb.

mines on AT's and is LWB... I mean, it could just be like that, it isn't a car after all but it is a bit floaty on the motorway... more than it should be I think/should probably just harden up/will do an alignment and see if it helps:)

Does it have the factory suspension dampening switch? (Soft,Medium,Hard).

My mothers old one had this and when on M or S it was all over the place on the open road.
