96 LN107 DC IFS- How much shaft play??

Post by catalystracing »

Im just replacing front wheel bearings, ball joints and discs. When I had all this apart I noticed that the drive shaft has a lot of play in the housing( I can move the spline up and down about 1.5-2mm) :o how much should there be and is it just a bronze bush that might need replacing.?? If so how hard to strip it down to the next level to get in there and get it all good to go. Cheers

are you meaning the diff flange that the driveshaft bolts to has play up and down? if so is most likely pinion bearing in the diff where the play is coming from

From my experience that is pretty normal. If you have the cv and axle out of the stub at any time it pays to give it a good clean up and grease. Ages ago mine got full of crap from 4wding and the axle started to bind up in the stub and made a really weird vibrating. Was a real pain to figure it what it was till mike on here told me to check that out. cant remember is there is a seal in there or not? If so would just be a rubber seal I would have thought.

Cheers,
Pete
