Cooked Surf options

My 1994 1kz surf cooked itself yesterday
I've been away for a week and on my way to work yesterday, the water pump gave out and lost the coolant and it seems the rest is fried (lost compression in 3) all in a 7 minute drive!
My guess is that the head is toast, the rings may be damaged too and who knows about the bottom end.
Its a standard surf in pretty tidy condition with no particular faults about to roll over to 200k
What would be your choice from here?
I could:
- Replace engine with a recon or just a swap and get going again. (What's the options and costs?)
- Sell it as it (What do you reckon it would be worth?)
- Sell out as parts (prob worth more this way but more work. - If so could also replace with another surf/prado and keep the best bits).
Would be ideal to get a crashed one or one with the engine being pulled out to upgrade.
Appreciate any input with ideas or sources of engine and labour/assistance to swap over if heading that way.

probly best bet would be an engine swap.
surfs are good trucks, and if you find a good engine youl be set for a while.
theres plenty of 1kz's around.

Thanks
Keen to locate a reasonable engine, or even complete crashed/rolled vehicle if any one knows of anything.

Bugger that if you want to keep it, spend the money and re build your engine. It wont be the cheapest option but it will last longer and you wont be buying someone else's problem child.

X2, if you do this you know you have a brand new engine, second hand one you are taking a bit of a risk, could have been overheated/thrashed etc.

You could consider a 5l motor from a hiace. Although the price probably starts at around 2k for a half decent one. I don't know what they go for in Turners wreck auctions (as a complete vehicle)
Edit: just noticed you said 1kz not 2.4 so ignore this

I`d go with a Rebuild or upgrade to a 1UZ

Its prolly worth about $1000 if its a SSR (recaro interior in good cond) model with a bung motor.

Yeah

- unfortunately don't have the time to go down that road.
Looking to replace with the same or rebuild what I've got. - Who are some good contacts?
There appear to be very few 1kzs around for a swap - have rung around a few places but most are out of them at present. Only found one so far.
So far I've tried
Gav in Fernside - Nothing at present
Lineside - Nothing at present
Jamie at Automotive parts Rangiora - Nothing at present
Partfind - Nothing at present
AA Jap Diesel Dismantlers - Nothing at present
A Surf wrecker in Kaiapoi - Nothing at present
To buy a recond block and head from the likes of Lineside is getting too pricey for the value of the vehicle. (they admit that themselves) So looking for other options.

Do it once if you intend keeping it, get yours rebuilt, to give you an idea of cost I recently got a 1hd-t (6cyl Toyota diesel) rebuilt, recond longblock was $3900 incl. of course that included reconning the head but not a new head.
I dealt with MPL as they do a lot of engine work for my workplace, very, very good workmanship, turn around was about 2 weeks.
Will cost more than a replacement engine however you will know exactly what you have and it'll be worth it.

Hey,
Sorry to hear about your engine. I would rebuild it if I were you. They aren't hard to do. I did mine in the garage with the help of a mate. He got all the parts from sta parts in auckland. Really well priced. The head was a amc head which is spanish made. Apparently really good quality heads. All up for bearings, rings, full gasket set and head was 1800. That was trade through his work but I might be able to sort something out for you. PM me if you have any questions.
Sam
