Started de-chroming the Jeep and looking at stinger style front bumpers and new rims - going from all chrome to blacked out. Also replaced the lights on the top bar caus the old housings were rusting out. Then headed out to the Orewa hot rod show for a browse and a hot dog.

Tried uploading rod show pics and jeep pics via Picasa but got over the counterintuativitynessness so headed over to FB and whatta ya know theres a bunch of you guys there too.

Q: Are stingers legal in NZ?

Not if they are angled forward, unsafe for pedestrians apparently, why the hell they are on the road anyway I don't know.

Gold Bruiser, a downscaled version of that was exactly what I was thinking. Was probably gonna weld up a simple bar coming off c brackets to go over the existing chassis ends (and around the winch plate)anyway so if mister picky at the station had an issue I could just wip it off with a 12mm anyway.. Feel a bit bad tho - the build sheet from the previous owner showed the akerbilt bill at 4.5k for the bars that just decorate the back of the garage now.. ah well.

A group of us went for a play in the Tirhonga Gorge today. River quite low and alot of slime at the edges of the river. All land is private with hay bales to catch any sediment

A trailbike rider has been killed in a crash on a four-wheel drive track between Tauranga and Te Aroha, police say.

The crash happened about 12km from Te Aroha on Thompson's Track in the Kaimai-Mamaku Forest Park, police said on Monday afternoon.

Police, ambulance and the Westpac rescue helicopter attended but the rider died at the scene.

No further details were available.

had some fun in the sun and even found some mud. Was only a passenger and photographer. Pics up later.

Later today I got the fiva all ready to go. Now its pretty much ready for a WoF bar bleeding brakes again and a final timing and idle mixture setting.

Good two days in the Jeep.
Did a track down by Waihi.

Day 1, 10 Trucks
Day 1 was hard going. But...

5 hours into the bush, one of the willy's Jeeps broke its front wheel hub, Axle side, and needed a new complete front axle.
The trip out was a bit quicker... 4 hours.
That night, the owner of the willy's did a 4 hour mish to Cambridge and back to go and get another front axle.
(Im learning Jeep people have spares of everything... somewhere)

Day 2, 5 Trucks

The rescue mish to get the Willy's.
Load up the trucks with the replacement axle, axle stands, and basic tools.
with 5 trucks, and the work we had done on the track the day before, it only took us 2.5 hours to get in.
Then i stood back, and watch these guys strip down the front-end of the willy's, remove the axle, transfer over the disc brakes to the new axle and diff, oil everything up, and re-fit it....
All in the bush, with limited basic hand tools. all in 1.5 hours.

That was mighty impressive.

Then 2 hours to get back out.

The repaired willy's was faultless on the way out.

This was essentially my first bush run, with new tires...
I feel i held my own... :)

It was good to spend two days in the bush, away from the city...

P.s. The Silverstones throw some mud don't they... especially when your tires stick out from the guards about an inch... :) :(

Silverstone sized chunks all thru the wagon...
But shes clean (ish) now...

Started at tearoha side of thompsons track yesterday, got over the top and down to the first bog before the bombsite Walked out about ten pm to kati side, then returned this morning to finish. Hard going!! We were in a stock 1990 isuzu trooper with 31inch muds and a terrain tamer winch we just fitted. We were well prepared recovery wise and came out 5pm today. 15 hours all up. The bog holes at the bombsite as bad as ive heard! Picked careful lines where possible. Gruelling track! Everyone we asked said the old girl woudlnt make it, but damn those troopers are tough!

Made a ghetto style snorkel for the van Sat morning, didn't get it fitted.
Then drove out to Port Waikato. Drove around the peninsula and stayed the night on the beach. Then Sunday/Monday drove all the way down to Awakino via raglan/kawhia etc got back tonight.

Since when has Ocean Beach at Kaphia been barred to vehicles? Was looking forward to a drive down the beach to the hot springs from Aotea harbour but looks like the fun police have got there before me.

Looks Like Fun. Was that paper roads?

My long weekend consisted of mowing my 2 acres with a walk behind haha.
Drinking with the family and used my winch to lift a motor onto my trailer and then again to get it off the trailer at its new home haha I would have probably caused some serious damage to my back if I didnt have that winch lol.
