Hi
Does anyone out there know of a set of free wheel hubs that would fit an LJ81?

Re: LJ80/81 Free Wheel Hubs
hey Jeff
Pics of your LJ81 please
you can fit SJ413 / or samurai swivel hubs with disc breaks and freewheeling hubs
but You need to use SJ410 CV's and the stock LJ80/81 axles .

X2 on the pics please!

Re: LJ80/81 Free Wheel Hubs
Here's a pic. I was going to put a hydraulic deck off a Daihatsu HiJet on (the smallest tip truck in the world!), but as I do some research I am beginning to think this is rather a rare beast and better off left as original as poss. I know that putting free wheel hubs on contradicts keeping it original, but I cant resist driving it as much as I can. On the road, the fixed hubs put a fair amount of resistance through the drive train and is pretty hard on the wee 800cc. This currently has drum brakes on the front (as opposed to the discs on the lj50 I think?)
Thanks for the guidance UBZ

Re: LJ80/81 Free Wheel Hubs
LJ50 and LJ80/81 all have drum brakes.
We fit disc brakes and free wheeling hubs for the reason you stated above, to preserve as much road performance in 2WD as possible, give you the ability change a CV on the side of the track and give you much safer brakes, as the stock front drum brakes only have one brake shoe, not two, and have to be manually adjusted with a screw driver to adjust for the wearing of the brake lining.
The complete Knuckles off the front diff from a SJ410 or SJ413 complete with disc brakes and free wheeling hubs fit straight onto the LJ80/LJ50 diff. The only catch is that you need SJ410 CV's, not SJ413 CV's to make the hybrid CV joint to fit the LJ80 half shafts. SJ410 CV's are still available new off the shelf from Repco, Partsmaster, BnT, ebay, suzistore etc
I use Mitsi Lancer EVO 4 front brake hoses to fit the calipers.
Worth the effort for the better brakes and road performance alone I reckon
