Is this as simple as it looks, drilling some holes and bolting on?

Also does anyone know if the kzn185 swing arm will fit a kzn130?

looked at doing this to my terrano and it invlolves alot of reinforcement needed to be put behind it.

not a simple task at all.

You'd be better off to build a rear bar if you don't already have one and swing your carrier off that.

surely you could brace the top part of the carrier on the body though, might need to weld a bit of thick panel onto it, but aslong as the weight is on the bar it would be allright.

remember that the body and chassis are isolated by rubber bushings. tie'ing the rear bar to the body will create stress and could end up, tearing the body shell

although mounting to a rubber bush could help alleviate this.

Not an easy job...takes many hours to do it properly.
Been there done that never again....can tell you whats involved if ya really want to do it tho.

the aussies have the spares on the rear bar, some times even two spares, althou they dont do the close quarter work that we do. they are not supported by the body either so it may pay to have a closer look at there design.


couldnt see it being to cleaver being aussy and all, a heavy wall pipe welded thru the rear bar channel with a larger pipe over the top and wheel bracket fixed to that. along those lines at a guess

could always just chuck it on the roof.

Looked into it, literally easier to make a rear bar and attach it to it.

have a look at an arb catalog (spelling) they have rear bars that have the spear tire swing arm incorporated into you could maybe copy one of there designs?

its not hard to do the tire holder on the rear bar.
you can get proper kits with spindle and bearings that you can weld on the arms. poor mans way is to use a trailer hub and axle. cut the stud part off and weld on the arm.
over centre latch to hold the arm onto the arm.

you want to actually stay on ! plenty of rusted out trailers around.......
