Glowplug Diagnostics?

Post by nstacey »

The glowplugs have stopped working on my hilux. It's a 1985 LN65 running a 5L on the original 2L glowplug wiring etc. The glow dash light stopped working recently and the glowplugs definitely aren't working. Vehicle still starts only it takes a lot of cranking. Where do I start?

check the glow plug relay, and the the wiring, it could be as simple as a loose terminal or a bad earth somewhere, also check any related fuses.

make sure there is a good connection around the battery etc, make sure its gettng the right voltage aswell.

other thing is check your glow plugs.

Does sound like your relay, which is the cheaper option.

I put a voltmeter across the glow plug to see if there is any charge being delivered. If not, then the relay is not working.

If the dash light is not working then I would bet its the timer unit. The timer switches the relay so should be able to start there and check if getting any signal from timer when key is first turned on
