Splattered black oil in TD27T

Hi guys, on the top of the engine there is a big pipe which has got turbo written on it..looking at the engine bay from the front...behind the pipe on the left is a valve with a top hat on leaking alot of black oil...
What is happening?? black smoke is coming out when accelerating!

Is this the part you are asking about? If so this is a pressure relief valve, generally lets releases at 14psi, the black oily crap is what is inside your inlet manifold. This comes from your engine breater which is what was circled in youre post.
Black smoke in general means there is more diesel being injected than you are burning. How much of an issue this is depends on how much smoke there is basically, as most diesels will blow a bit on acceleration.

Hmmm, you shouldn't have oil coming out of your releif valve.
Open up your air filter box and see if any oil is inside there. If there is, then the oil is coming from your tappet cover breather hose. (circled in your original pic) This may mean you are loosing compression through the valve stems and its blowing too much air/exhaust into the tappet cover, out the breater hose, into the airbox and back into your manifold and creating too much pressure which in turn triggers the releif valve to open.
Another option is that the EGR could be returning lots of exhaust gas to the inlet manifold, but the releif valve shouldn't be open.
Start the truck, let it idle and put your hand around the releif valve to see if air is coming out. It might be stuck open.

the one your talking about controls the butterfly in the intake i beleive, mine leaks a little too, but not that bad.
any of the oil is what is being thrown into your intake by the breather, all cars do this, diesels a little more lol

I suggest removing egr system (see this thread
http://www.offroadexpress.co.nz/Forums/ ... 3&start=15) and plumbing engine breather into a catch can.
Is youtr intake pipe dirty/oily just past where engine breather pipe tee's in? Tie a piece of rag on a wire and do a 'swab' test.

When i did the EGR removal i tossed the butterfly housing as well because of the same thing. I made my own replacement and a scavenging catch can
so the pressure is removed from the block but with out the oily mess

Welcome to TD27's. Delete EGR system. The oil is coming from the seals on the butterfly shaft. Nothing unusual about that. My third terrano (still in standard trim) is worse than yours. There are some easy fixes around. What happens is, the air filter gets a little blocked and the turbo will suck crankcase fumes that are laden with oil into the "S" bend before turbo and feed it back into the intake.
Here is one suggestion for a remedy of the oil leak but ideally needs a full EGR deletion.

Remove the whole shaft assembly and put a bolt through it with some flange sealant behind the washers on the outside.

i had the same on mine still does it but i improved it by tighting all bolts just a bit so you dont snap any of and the hose conector that big black hose thing change the oil filter oil and airfilter dont drive it like a race car and it still may leck but not as bad Diesels can be dirty as hell
