Hey all i am new to this site and just recently purchased a 1991 SWB Landcruiser with the 1PZ 5 cylinder engine.
However i am not new to 4wding i still have my 91 surf on 32' wrangler MTR's with 2' suspension lift and 2' body lift.
Looking forward to seeing how the SWB Landcruiser compairs especially going from 2.4 turbo to 3.5L.
Mod's im looking at doing straight away is snorkel suspension lift body lift and New tires. And possibly in the future an ARB Diff lock setup
Where would be a good place to start looking for the gear i need as i want to do it right this time. Thinking of getting 33' 10.5 ' Silverstones the M-117 xtremes anyone had experience with these before and would i need to do the liftin 1st or would they go straight on? am currently in afghanistan and havent seen the truck yet but want to do my research so i can get it into some mud bog's in central otago soon as i get back. any help would be much appriciated. Will be most likely buying parts from dunedin / chch.

there goes $5k+ to start with and another $2k for the arb, nobody said its a cheap sport :D as far as the tyres go the silverstones are a good tyre but not really a road tyre if your going to be using it for running around as well you'll find they'll be half worn at 5000km and nothing much left at 10,000km they wear real fast on the road, 33" is a small tyre for a cruiser your now on 9" diffs (probably 1x 8" and 1x 9" with a 1PZ) and SUA you really need to be looking at 35" if you want to maximise the trucks capability they'll go straight on with a body lift and a good set of springs

Oh sweet cheers for replys 35" it is then lol was going to do body lift etc anyway so may as well. Yeah thats what i've heard sadam apparently simex's will last longer but much cheaper for the silverstones is that just because they are a softer compound tyre? Do u know somewhere can get ARB for 2k? or was that just an estimate, i got quoted 3k from ARB in palmerston north. Def not a cheap sport thats for sure but so rewarding.

realistically is dosent matter if you get silverstones or simexes they will both wear out fawking fast regardless of which tyre compound is harder wearing, silverstone 35s are usually a bit smaller than simexes in overall height but are definately better priced than a simex, the silverstones have bigger voids between the blocks so they clear a bit easier if you havent got a big HP bigblock up front :D shop around and compare prices when your looking for an ARB, usually rocky road (http://www.rocky-road.com) in the states works out pretty good, I think there about a grand USD at the moment but you've still got freight and gst on top of that, I got my first set from them for $635USD each and it worked out significantly cheaper than any other prices I could get at the time, also check out suzolla on here hes a site vendor and supporter and imports a lot of stuff including ARBs and is pretty competitive and reliable, get a trusted shop or person with the right reputation to set the diffs up for you its a lot of money to spend to end up with a diff in lots of pieces coz you tried to save a buck :x . As far as new suspension goes my preference is old man emu stuff for 70 series cruisers, got them in my 70 series and really like them, had old man emu in my 40 series and thought they were shit so you cant call me biassed  have a search through nurses posts and find the pics of her bj70 with old man emu springs it sits up nice and high and articulates well for a leaf spring and fits the 35" simexes no prob without a body lift. All my opinion that I've found in my experience and its only worth the amount you paid for it Image
