Coilspring Hilux

Post by SupraLux »

Well, everyone else has done it so why not me :)

I've got the coils, got most of the control arms etc and even some shiny new Rancho 9012's to go in...

rear first, then front - and I'm thinking 3-link rear with some fancy joint on the top of the diff-housing - although balljoints don't seem to have enough travel to give the articulation I want - which could force me to go 5-link to get the travel - or I could make it 4-link and have seperate joints for each of the angled arms... any thoughts on that would be appreciated.

The front can wait since I have a pretty good setup with the hilux rear springs up front and balljoint-modified steering draglink.

I will photo-document the change from leafs to coils and let everyone know where I'm at with it... although I'm not going to pull it apart like Tom - I think I'll just remove the deck - that seems enough :)

hi steve, don't do a three link (radius arm and panhard) setup as they are very restrictive.

check out the rear of a vitara, the A-arm setup they have sounds close to what you want to do.

the three link on my suzuki (standard fare) is hard to get working properly as the bushes have to compress to get articulation.

I meant 4-link rather than three - I am planning to use an a-arm for axle location rather than a panhard rod.

Just trying to find something with a lot of movement for the joint on the top of the diff - most ball-joints and tie-rod ends don't have enough movement for what I want.

Steve you need to have a look at this setup of mine.
With the ball joint on the A frame I'm getting close as damn to 45degrees articulation before the ball joint binds up.
Anymore and I'll end up turning the rear end into a propellar.
Hang on.... now that I think about it, that might be beneficial in some circumstances. 8) 8)
Anyway talk later
