Thursday : 14th Valantines day, so Gave my truck some loving .
Stripped all tyres of rims and got all the mud and sand out of the rims,
I was loosing too much air ( So much that I had a flat last weekend in woodhill ) ..

Noticed Rear brake pads have worn down heaps since last time I checked

.

Friday : Work was dead as , So up went the Safari on the hoist,
Fixed rear tail pipe that I ripped off a few weeks ago in the bush .
Made it sit up higher and finished behind the rear bar, so hopefully this lasts longer than factory, and previous quick fix :lol:

Started to replace rear brake pads, thought I'd meassure my ok looking discs, they were .6mm Below spec , and all my vents in the disc (Vented discs - Rear of Y60) coverd in sand and mud!.
So threw Away the Disc rotors, New Rotors and Pads
Removed the rear heat sheilds , should clear mud and sand better than before ( Have removed front heat sheilds when I did Diff seals and they do clear mud /sand much better than with them on.)

Flushed out all the brake and clutch fluid, Greased up the driveshafts .
Checked Bearings, wheel nuts , any leaks etc .. All is Ok ,
Ready for Wheeling in the Sand dunes tomorrow .
Sunday - Free tickets to the v8s at Hampton downs, will go for a lookie,
maybe I can pick me up a spare LS2 or LS3 / what ever they run in them touring cars . Would be a cool engine in the Safari :!:

Started tearing this thing down today, will keep going till the adrenaline stops (4am to give my sister a lift to the airport). Hope to have it down to bare chassis by early Sunday w/ tons of good parts available

Most productive day. Changed yet another front diff today. Takes an hour to remove one from the truck, but gravity is a big help :lol:

While there wasn't a diff in the way, replaced both inner cv boots as one was split and the other wasn't far behind.
Big thanks to Workin On It for the 4.8 diff I got picked up from Blenheim.
Tightened up a few loose steering and suspension parts too.

Well nothing exciting this weekend, it was supposed to be maintenance weekend :roll:

My gearbox decided it liked to crunch 3rd every change up or down, so I went out and grabbed some thicker oil and some lucas stop slip...

Drained the oil out, drain bung looked pretty much identical to the one above :lol:

3 small keys(?) fell out the bottom of the box which im guessing are something to do with the syncros :evil:

I will be keeping an eye out for a non dreamer priced pto gearbox to go in or I will look at getting it rebuilt... anyone got one?

Well got bored today so thought i would drive up onto my safari chassis for some articulation, trying to see how much room ill have for larger tyres.

im dissapointed that i couldnt get the front to flex much compared to the back.

certainly better than stock

needs some softer springs though, and aftermarket shocks, as the ones in it are stock safari in the rear, and 30mm lift in the rear.

also took it down to the river for a play, definitly needs better tyres.....

I had that issue, managed to destroy the inside of the FWH also. Both bearings collapsed and allowed to whole hub to move. Wore some nice slots in the brake caliper.

must be the weekend of running gear!
stripped front diff housing replaced all bearings and seals brakes etc
now new battery and tyres and shes good as new
its been the longest vehicle ive ever owned 18yrs all up its been reliable as
only replaced the chassis , body, axles ,springs ,gearbox, motor,radiator driver seat front and side windows bumper bars so far :wink:

Started chopping up the old cruiser chassis.

Removed the wheels/tyres and rear diff (spring bolts were a bastard to get out). Chassis is on blocks now with just the front axle to come out before its is hard out grinder time.

Rear 700mm is now off on the ground (it has a tow bar fitted if anyone wants it but you have to take the piece its bolted to cause I'm not going to unbolt it).

New grinder is working well and those 1mm cutting disks are great, if not a little too quick to vanish, but they work great (better than a hacksaw and are cheap).

I'm going to chop some of the bits up and keep them for steel I will reuse in mounts and odd bits 'n' pieces. The old tray steel is mostly rusted but some bits will stay as it has potential later.

The spare wheel mechanism has been removed. Was going to take the whole crossbrace etc but after messing around for an hour trying to cut through the rivets I decided to just make a new crossmember and unbolted the mechanism (which I'll weld on - or bolt) - havent decided.

swapped the rear shocks for shorter ones for the WoF and also painted the underside in chassis black, sorted some rust and bled the bloody brakes again, still no air out so the pedal travel must be normal. Master cylinder is not leaking so its not that. Oh well, talk with the WoF guy tomorrow.
