Rear Diff Info Needed - HG46
Hi All
Been looking through all my Nissan manuals, but can't find anything on the rear Diff installed in my Terrano
Its a LSD....
HG46
....apparently a bus/truck diff.
Is one of the other models similar in setup?
R180A
R200A
H190A
C200
H233B
I'm just researching schiming the LSD plates to tighten it up a bit more.
Cheers

Re: Rear Diff Info Needed - RE4R01A HG4b

Re: Rear Diff Info Needed - RE4R01A HG4b
The RE****** number you refer to is the gearbox not the diff. The HG** id the diff. As above it will be HG46 not 4b,
Toy - Zuk chassis tub, hilux 4.88 axles and transfer, Nissan CA18DE motor and auto trans, sc12 supercharger, 32 10'5 simex, twin motor 8274 custom freespool. Well the parts are all there in various corners of the shed

Ahhh yeah, 46 not 4b. Hard to read that plate in the engine bay.
So its just a h233b with a 4.6 ratio, correct?

HG46 is combination axle code. HG designates the rear axle as an H233B. 46 designates the gear ratios as 4.625:1
This one has some variation. Pre-2000 versions are the H233B axle with 4.625:1 gearing (31 spline axles). 2000+ is the H233B axle with 4.636:1 gearing (33 spline axles)
It is usually mated to an R200 front diff.
Waiter...there is a drought in my glass.
Re: Rear Diff Info Needed - HG46
C200 and H233 diffs both run the same clutch plates in their LSD so won't matter if you do get it wrong. But the 46 refers to the ratio - and if it has a removable cover plate is is a C200, if it doesn't it will be an H233 (this diff is also bigger).
Re: Rear Diff Info Needed - HG46
Yep and the numerical part indicates ring gear size in mm - C200 200mm (8"), H233 233mm (9.25")
fullthrottle if this is still the stern of your truck, its an H233. AFAIK the C200 was discontinued on the WD21 platform in 1990 when the first TD27 turbos came out, but continues to remain in use in the latest Navara/Frontier/Xterra.
IMO the H233 is kind of an overkill in a compact truck, the entire axle assembly weighs in close to half a ton.

Nup still running the first H233 I put a chinese air-locker in when I swapped from C200 in T1 that was non-turbo. Onto it's second truck now and still going strong. Only had to rebuild locker once to resize O rings and replace spider gear thrusts.
Over-kill comes to mind

Cheers,
I keep looking for the loose nut behind the wheel, but I can't find it!!
Re: Rear Diff Info Needed - HG46
Pity they didnt go to the bigger gearbag when they put in the H233, think of all the time and money we all would've saved
Re: Rear Diff Info Needed - HG46
