well heres the series 3

Its been done loads of times over the years.
Most use the Range Rover chassis and weld on Landy outriggers.
There is even a DVD available called a 4x4 is Born from a British TV series. Available on Trade Me for around $28.00 from memory.

definalty stay with the rangie chassis, "Mike" on here, hes the founder of the forum has done this and its a pretty damn cool truck. Im not sure of all the details but i believe its been shortened and i think engine mounts were moved. But the suspension setup of rangies/discos is awesome, dont butcher it by cutting it up

yea the only reason i thought of going that route is a i wouldnt have to splice the chassis and only if the 2s chassis is still alright the rangie chassis is ehhh haha

couple of ? probly stupid ones but i cant find a definite awnser whilst searching probly asking the wrong ? but here go's

with putting this series 2 body the 186 and series g/b onto the r/r chassis now most of that should go according to my plans but the chassis has disc brakes buti have no booster will the series booster work? and also will the series steering box work or should i upgrade it ?

Use the steering box from the Range Rover. Better and is probably power steer as well. If not still better that the old series set up. Possibly use the steering column from the RR as well.

You will need a brake booster. Not sure if the series will be up to it but otherwise source one from a Discovery. More compact and probably better suited.

I went down the modify the series chassis route. It has taken a lot of time and money

I think the way you go partly depends on the end use.

Dedicated offroader, I would shorten the RR chassis.

The problem I have with the series chassis is the steel is quite thin. Im unsure how much abuse it will take off road. I may not have any trouble but time will tell.

The RR/disco chassis is constructed much stronger, and will take a beating.

hey pete is just going to be a dedicated off roader so will use the rr chassis and im not to worried on cost as it dosent need to be done in 5minutes itll be one of those work in progress and something i can learn alot on hopefully

If I was to do it all again I wouldnt cut the chassis, keep it the 99" wheel base it is. Will make for adding the rear cross member on a lot easier. You also get the optimum hill climb chassis length.

Get a 3.9 efi rover v8 and bolt it straight in. just to much fun !!! put an extra set of shocks around it because you are going to want to hit stuff fast. I just mounted the exact same set of standard shocks around it again.

Body outriggers youll have to weld on in various places and a beam or tub mounts across the back for the.

Interesting project, took me a 2 years I think and then a mad rush at the end by a few peeps on here to get it ready for the oxford mud plug and the following sheffield mud plug where it got 4th, beaten by three zuks

should give you some ideas about the steering column and brake booster setup.

its a nice feeling once you get it to this stage where everything is just bolted together with a few bolts to see it all fits nicely.

hey mike yea tempted to if i can get one cheap and a box for it i could use the series box and adapt a v6 commy to it i spose cheers for the links are good to see and the rolling chassis i have alread has old man emu lift kit in it when i got hold of it and im also doing the whole bobber tray instead of the wellside

That Series 2 is not a 1958 is it ? They are like hens teeth and fetching good money now if they still have original running gear.

If I was to build another I would do it this way as well. You could also use the RR/Disco gas tank which would save you a lot of pissing around with fuel lines, pumps and tanks.

But, In saying that, the SWB has turned out alright. Unfortunately the engine had low oil pressure and the ZF auto trans was stuffed

Only took it for a couple of spins before I had to pull it apart again to fix these issues which is still underway.

shit thats a good looking rig mate can use that fuel tank as some d**khead put a fork of a tractor threw it well thats what it looks like sadly all i have of the range rover is the chassis diffs springs and drive shafts no steering coloum or brake booster how ever the series 2 is complete so ill use alot of its stuff if possible

rights so ive got to much other shit going on these are just sitting there doing nothing so heres the info one with the hard top is a early serious 3 still has original motor plates are on hold for some one with the time it could get back on the road easy enough the other truck is just parts
