1kzte auto not changing into 3rd

Post by Jesse »

Hi have tried searching for information on this but I couldn't find anything.

My kzn130 surf stopped changing into third this afternoon, I have no idea what has changed from this morning where it was running sweet. but no matter what I do I can't get it to shift out. First to second is slow as well.

Has this happen to anyone before?

I have checked the oil its at the right level.

Thanks
Jesse

I would check or get the ECU checked as the leaking capacitors can cause gear change faults. Mainly O/D but could affect other gears

Legend. It is the ECU. I swapped with my mates one who just happened to come round. put his in and drove it, back to normal. put mine back to check if it just needed a reset... but no its stuffed.

Guess now I'm looking for a ECU haha.

Thanks again.

I would get it fixed as are very hard to get secoundhand. Most electronics repair shops should be able to fix it. Is just normally leaky capacitors so need to be replaced and any corrosion repaired. I have done a few

So I took the ECU to my old man, who is a sparky. He couldn't see anything wrong with it like blown capacitors or anything like that. no corrosion that we can see either looks pretty tidy considering its age.

Is there a certain area of the board where I should be looking?/ Do I just need to test each capacitor? I may look stupid by assuming a leaky cap is a blown or damage one.

I'm in Auckland does anyone know anyone who would be able to fix it, or should I just try and get my hands on another one?

I took it to Wayne at efi-tech. One of the circuit boards is toast and is going to cost $570 to replace it.

Is it still worth getting it fixed for that much, when I could go and buy a second hand one for half of that? Just seems like heaps after I've already had the head done this month.

Or is it worth it considering ill get a 24 Month warranty?

I did call Anything Electrical, they were going to be pretty cheap but found R-T Auto up here in auckland a better way to go. Slighty more but I would have it back sooner.

Got it back in one day for less than half the price of the first quote. So I'm pretty happy about having my truck back on the road.

Thanks for the advice guys.
