^ hahaha

I've been waiting for this to start! The next evolution should be a motor on each wheel, imagine the control you would have. No need for lockers or fiddle brakes. You could skid steer and also limit torque to the wheels with grip on hill climbs to keep you going straight up. I've also heard that with the right motor you can get full torque at 0 rpm!

Just need a way to store the energy more efficiently...

electric motors have full torque at 0rpm that is why they don't need a gearbox

and yes batteries are the limiting factor for electric cars they always have been even way back at the beginning of the 20th century

That must of been a tease for you Mike. Giving you all those views and stats. Then right at the end saying, "no plans for putting then into production".

Yes the motor on each wheel sounds like the go. :D

It will be weird having no noise from the engine from a V8 or a Diesel only a pathetic whine from the motor as you go up a hill , takes the fun out of 4wheeling in my opinion, but it is a good idea.

i had thought a little about setting up an electric 4wd on something that had a divorced transfer case and just connect the motor directly to the input on that but as per usual with electric vehicles the batteries are the issue those lithium ion things are really expensive

Yeah all this has to wait for a better energy storage system. The control just gets amazing though, look at what you can do with motors on a CNC mill. No way that can be done with a internal combustion engine.

I like the sound of a servo/motor working hard, CNC equipment sounds good on full noise... not as good as a V8 but good enough for me.

as i work around the yards i hear the nissan leaf will give the gtr a run for its money i also hear once the computer has been hacked on the holden volt it will accelerate faster to the legal limit than a v8 supercar

imagine the carnage when we have commodores with a 2000kw moter on each wheel.

A cynic is not merely one who reads bitter lessons from the past, he is one who is prematurely disappointed in the future

I guess the chassis and underbody will rust out quickly without the rust prevention system working. Isnt that what you rover guys call leaks?
