Hey there, on the firewall tag of a y60 safari the engine code states td42, now the truck is running a turbo engine and gearbox setup would that tag if it was factory state td42-t? Or did nissan not bother to stipulate on these?

The only difference I can find on the id tags apart from colour code and the vin and engine numbers is that my turbo chassis number starts with WRGY60 (import) and non turbo is KRY60 (nz new) my other td42 is WRY60 (import), the engine number on the diesels are td42 4169cc whether it's turboed or not, but on the block of the turboed motor its written as TD42-xxxxxxxT the t saying its turboed but nothing on the actual id tag apart from the extra digit being the G in the model number/engine number hope this helps.
Cheers Andy

Ahh awesome man chers for that. This turbo rig I just picked up only has the td42 on its chassis tag also which got me to wondering if it had been swapped in or not.
It is also the Wrgy60 code.
Thanks again for the info

What year is your new truck? Does it have side lights in the front corners?

From my knowledge, the 'factory' turbo engine started coming out in safari's from late 1993 onwards, round about the same time they started to include a sidelight on the guard (corner turning aide?). The engine was usally distinguished by a black rocker cover. Just my 2 cents

Factory turbos were an extra when the truck was ordered. As you can find various trim specs, wheel bases, years (pre 93 after 93) with and without turbos. It wasn't a cause of this is a high trim spec so it will have a turbo or bolting turbos on as standard past a certain year of production. A dude at the Nissan Parts department told me that so I guess he knows what he's talking about. He sure did know a fair bit about TD42s and the differences between getting parts for a Safari vs. Patrol etc. I'm happy to be proven wrong on this though.
As far as I know most Safaris and Patrols that are turboed and still around are aftermarket turbos.
