Hi guys,
1991 16v Escudo 5spd
Well after my 2500km adventure up north I have had to replace my muffler (taking the opportunity to open the pipe up to 2.5" and install a turbo flow muffler) and have had to get a brand new radiator. While we were away I noticed a bit of clutch slip sometimes but it seemed to be intermittent, Turns out this was a small leak from somewhere in the pipe or hose behind the water pump and the coolant was sometimes dribbling back and getting into the clutch somehow. Ive had time tonight so have pulled the old radiator out and had a look and the steel pipe that comes out from the back of the water pump is looking a bit rusty so I may as well replace it. I guess what Im on here for is advice on the best place to get this steel pipe as everyone ive talked to has said they dont do them. While im at it I should replace the rubber hoses, water pump, cambelt and the various seals etc. Can anyone tell me the cheapest place to get all that kit?
Thanks!

Re: Need to replace steel water pipe.
Honestly, you're talking about a 20+ year old car, if you don't HAVE to replace the steel pipe, then don't. Take it off, clean with a wire brush, quick coat of bright zinc spray paint and you're done. Focus on finding the source of the leak and only replace the bits that really need replacing.
Re: Water leak
Ok on further inspection it looks like it might be the frost plug? Its pretty hard to see in there and try and find the source. Can anyone shed some light on a way of finding the leak without removing the engine? It's not leaking much at all so I can live with keeping an eye on the water level but ultimately I will need to fix this.
Re: Water leak
the inlet pipe (steel pipe ) to the rear of the water pump has an o-ring on it .
you should be able to undo the retianing bolt (bout half way along the pipe) and pull the pipe out . if the pipe has been disturbed it is quite commen for them to start leaking there
you can buy the o-ring and or new pipe from http://www.suzispares.com.au

Re: Water leak
So after about 4 hours of swearing I have all the injection and induction side off the engine and it is the front frost plug. Lucky me. Ill check the Suzi Spares website for all the stuff Ill need, May as well do the camblet and water pump and all the seals etc while im in there. Any other suggestions on places to go to get this stuff at a good price? Any tips on replacing the frost plug?
