UJs no grease zerk?

Post by lax2wlg »

Whats the story with these Nissbangs re; driveshaft UJ greasing? I can only find one zerk on the front d/s and none on the back. I looked at a Safari rear d/s at it was the same deal.

Are these puppies sealed for life,or...?

my rear is the same, although inside the assembly there is a hole drilled, an on my front driveshaft there is a zerk where the whole is on the otherones.

mines a safari driveshaft front and rear.

A lot of vehicles are going that way (sealed for life).
Have a close look at universal & inspect it from all entry points, for want of a better phrase.
You may find it has little blanks which can be removed, and a zerk fitted. (common for nissans of this era)
You can either do temporarily to add some more grease (refitting blank after) or fit a permanent zerk to grease again later. (approx $3.50 each)
I found all my steering joints had these blanks also. Only ones that didn't are the front D/s universals (slider had zerk)

That is very solid advice thanks, I'll have a closer look. All I know is they look dry!

if you measure the cap dia and the distance betwen the cross and know where you would like the nipple you should be able to get greasable UJ's and go after market
trust me have measured several in a previous life

Thats the one :D
Whip 'em out, check thread, find zerk to suit, wizz that in there and bingo- greaseable joint 8) .
Sounds easy when put like that ae?
Dirtydog- you'll prob have to remove shaft, move universal to largest angle it can go on so you can get to it, then fit a 90deg elbow type zerk to allow easy greasing when refitted
