Gearbox swap, Vitara

Post by zarnah »

Hi guys, well drove up to get the ferry in blenheim on tuesday night and thought my gearbox was making a slight whining sound (95 V6 Vitara, manual) in all gears except fourth, didnt think too much about it but then when returning home on thursday it all of a sudden started making a HORRIBLE whining/grinding sound, in all gears exept fourth. Nursed it home and dropped the oil today, got a few rather large pieces of metal out of it so guessing its dropped a bearing or something. I have a 1600 auto vitara here that has been rolled, will the auto bolt up to my V6? just wanting a cheap fix to get me running again while I suss the $ for a second hand manual box or rebuild.

Not sure whether the bellhousings are different but it would be a bit of a mission to convert it to auto, much better off to just buy another V6 manual gearbox.

cant be too hard can it? swap the pedal boxes over, swap the flywheel on the manual for flexplate on the auto, then dump it all back in

Engine bolt patterns are different, unsure if the "bell housings" can be unbolted - if not they wont swap :(

Nah not really the trans is electronically controlled so you'd need to wire in the computer for it as well.
