I have just replaced the motor in a suzuki escudo with the same kind (1600cc 16 valve) and there is no pcv valve just a different little metal pipe for another pipe to connect onto. What should I do would this be causing by weak power/ slow acceleration?

Thanks

A pcv valve is there to allow the crank case pressure to be relieved back into the intake on force inducted engines, normally an older N/A engine would not require one as the pressure in the intake is lower then that of the crank case. As for a turbo/supercharged application it is there to stop the crank case being pressurized by the turbo/supercharger. it is effectively a one way valve.

The reason it is vented back to the intake as apposed to atmosphere on today's engines is due to the engine management system. it measures all the air an engine uses to calculate fuel usage per cylinder. if this air is dumped to atmosphere after it is measured by an air flow sensor your engine will effectively run rich as the ECU as already allocated fuel for that air that is being dumped.

other applications would be if the engine could possibly be submerged, this would be practical even on a NA engine breathing to atmosphere to stop water entering.
