1992 pajero 2.5 auto wont crank at all
so it wont even crank over so i thought it had a jammed starter, pulled the starter out tested it fine, i went and tried to crank the engine over by hand and its locked up ? what could this be ? as you switch the ignition on the 4wd system flashes the front wheels on the little picture, maybe jammed in 4wd but i don't understand how this would lock everything up ? maybe some queer solenoid is stuck or something ? automatic box playing up ? vehicle rolls fine so drive train seems free >?

eeer problem found cambelt had snapped and broke all the intake rockers plus cracked the front camshaft housing, locking up the engine , lucky vehicle was at idle when it happened so shouldn't be any damage to valves or pistons fingers crossed!

If it's a 4D56 then you should be safe without taking the head off, rockers are the weak link.

also i think why it happened is i first suspected that the balance shaft belt had been neglected and only the timing be;lt changed as i've seen that before, but they where both new 40,000km ago, just came down to oil leaking all over the belts and they slipped off and got tangled i guess

failed compression test wouldnt hold compression, heads now off and nothing looks damaged ? just had small alloy peppered bits on top of pistons 1 and 4 and small amount on cylinder heads no1 slightly marked alloy but nothing serious ? off too the engines recon to get a leak down done on head i think
