This weekends achievements 30/01

Post by lilpigzuk »

So far so good, went looking for a rear diff head for my SJ410 and found one, however it cost me $250........... and i had to take the bits attached to it  8)

Image

Do I strip it for parts or not :?: ...... (photos do it more justice than it deserves, has quite a bit of rust, but mechanically sweet) Also got Lil pig sorted for a trial on tomorrow down hauraki plains way, big thanks to Chris (rotazuk) for getting my electrics sorted....again 8) Hope fully it drives onto the trailer at the end of the day - thats all I ever hope for

Just got back from the Coast, did No Name, Napoleans Hill, and Mt Greenland.
All quite tame compared to what they used to be like.

Give the woman tickets to whatever she most enjoys then trim the guards

There is no mechanical problem so difficult that it cannot be solved by brute strength and ignorance.

Removed the rear tray off the LR cut a bit off the chassis so I formulate a plan to attach the rear cross member. Discovered I need to move a bulkhead mount back 15mm  luckily I only tack welded everything on a year ago 8) Removed the bulkhead, guards and front. Back to a rolling chassis ready for the final welding this week.

Chassis cutting made easy with a drop saw.

Put a wheel bearing kit through the front left hub, lad a concrete slab, and started the small jobs on the truck in preparation for the Westcoast trip at the end of the month.

Land rovers

Post by Moriarty »

Richie, (Rolloverova) had bent a spring hanger, so, Saturday, he made a whole new outrigger, and perch. We jacked the dog up and ripped old one right off. cleaned up the hole it made, welded a patch on chassis and remounted new right-rear front hanger.

jobs a goldie now.

all he has to do is stop the bloody thing from bleeding carbon laced oil all over my driveway...... the liberties the loin-fruit takes with his old dad.....

One guess who supplied the cutting disks, grinding disks, the rust kill, the etch primer, the VHT paint?

:D Well, one of our famous spur of the moment trips again.........

Headed of down to Nat Park at about 7pm on Friday after work. Got to the camp site at Kaimanawa at about 11:30

The goal was to explore a couple of tracks off the Desert Road we had started on at the last trip. One that headed in on Private Land over towards the park boundary through the Tussock towards the mountains and another that ended up at the Pillars of Hurcules and Kaimanawa Road. Also if the River was right, head up the Tongariro River.

We met up with my old man in his LWB Safari later on Saturday and headed up the Tukino access for a play in the snow, and then went for a look up the Tongariro River. That was quickly abandoned as the level was up from last time (spring melt) and i only just made it through the first crossing and nearly dissapeared on the way back accross
I'm looking forward to seeing the video!!!!!!!

The rest of the weekend was pretty successfull, found and drove all the tracks, and found heaps more to explore next time. Looks like a Nat Park weekender in the Summer if anyones keen!!!!!!

Some scenic pic's:

 Yeah, wished i had of put the muddies on a couple of times, it was a case of "is there something to winch from on the other side?, yep, ok, hit it!!!" Adds to the challenge

Next trip will require muddies ,mainly for ground clearence accross a narrow but swift river. Need Ben there to send through first

I been hunting and camping there for a many long year, did you see the big trout that live under the dam spillway? the Bridge under the Waikato falls, I mean. from where your first foto was tooked.
me and Paul was hunting those roads before the tunnles was put in, had heaps of fun too. Did you manage to get to the Pillars from the SH1 side? I never did find THAT track.
