I have googled on this and came back with varying results. Basically I have the engine in bits to replace the frost plugs and was going to do the cambelt etc while I was in there but have run out of funds big time. If I cheap out and don't do the cambelt job and the cambelt snaps is it going to bend valves etc?

yes it is an interference engine. Would highly reccomend doing the cambelt, i did waterpump, cambelt and oil change for 160 bucks from repco, just drop the name of a mechanics and ask for trade. works a treat.
