laugh all you want but i have no idea what to tighten .... , can someone provide a link to an image of this rod and or instructions on how to tighten :)

Best thing you can do if your new to working on your vehicles is find a friendly mechanic who doesn't mind you being there with them as they do your wof. They can show you exactly what's wrong, were it is and give advice on repair. Makes life easy. I always watch my wofs.

Yes thats the torque rod, goes from the top of your front diff to the chassis under the engine drivers side, it's job is to stop the diff housing rotating when you hit the brakes, if the torque rod is loose or worse removed, it creates steering pulling when braking.
The spring bushes and shackle bushes are all the same size and you can buy them as a set, if one or two are shot the rest will be on the way out so replace them all.
What part of the country are you?

hair drier works if you take out the headlight part and poke it in there.

Had many problems with moisture in headlights.

The Hilux ute has sealed headlamps so ideally no moisture should be in there in the first place.

Getting it out may be quite tricky, possibly could take them out and stick in front of a de humidifier for a night, other wise you have to replace them being a sealed unit.

Ive sent you a pm about if you want a hand with any of the other stuff on your wof list, have quite a few spare spring bushes in the garage and ill teach you what to do.

Sounds a bit retarded typing it out but I throw my headlights in the oven on a low temp.

Never hear of failing a wof for cracked alternator belts,
wouldn't have thought that would be a wof issue.
Interesting to see

because a diesel alternator does the vacuum as well. and if it fails it means crap brakes without vacuum assist.

They often get replaced with semi-sealed units by people who want better light. While the semi-sealed ones let moisture in if you drown them, they can take 90/100W bulbs or higher instead of the standard 55/60W standard output (although the wiring should be upgraded as well when you do that).

It also makes bulb replacement much easier since you don't have to take the grille off and remove the whole unit.

The torque rod should be an easy fix, from memory its a 22 or 24mm bolt into a captive nut, so it should just need a few turns to tighten it - but as Hosehustler said, it stops brake-steer and if it comes off you will veer off the road every time you brake... I drove mine with the torque rod removed for a bit and its scary as hell braking at speed.

Got the Bushes all done and learnt how to change them , also got the exhaust all welded up :) The torque rod sorted and got some great advice, even learnt how to drop the back seat down to find the jack HaHa :)
Tomorrows mission is to remove and oven the headlights..
Hope to take for Re inspection next Sat, after i get the belts on and bulb in the taillight.
