want more power out of 2l-t

Does anyone have any good tips how i can get more power out of my 1987 2l-t?
I can get hold of a 1kz turbo and manifold for cheep.

1kz manifold won't bolt up to the 2lt.
The usual mods will help but at the end of the day it's

I was guna cut the 1kz flange off the manifold and cut the 2lt flange off and weld on the 1kz flange onto the 2lt manifold

Cause im not that rich lol im only an apprentice cnc machinest. Can only get turbo and manifold off a mate for cheep.

Look up a guy called terry Syd on the ozzy surf forums. He has dont alot of tweeking to these before.

I was able to beat older 1kz's with my 2.4 after I had done the following mods.

Boost compensater adjusted with a more aggressive ramp up. Boost comp lid drilled out where the pressure line plugs in. 2.5 inch ex no mufflers (no need to go bigger). Snorkle (not sure if that makes a diff) Raised boost to 16psi via washers under the waste gate and then via boost tap.

Other than the exhaust you shouldnt need to spend any money to get it going better.

terry has done a got lot of tweaks tho a 1kz should still be better.

only problem i see straight off is 'shity old hilux' 2lt is probably a 2lt(1). ie roller cam, different turbo etc than the more common 2lt(2).

Yeah your right prob is the old style motor of which I dont know much about but there must be some gains to be had Im sure.

1kz would be better but like he says its all about the $$$$$.

the only thing i remember from those ones was the turbo was often the weak point.
otherwise usual power ups, ball check boost controller up the boost to 12psi. exhaust, intercooler. tweak the fueling. egt gauge and keep it cool.

terry did a fair bit with the cam timing as the 2lt(2) has a very low rpm cam so he got plenty of gains from using a 3l cam and advancing it a bit. however i have no idea what timing the 2lt(1) has.

quickest mod is to put heavy flat washers behind the wastegate actuator brackets where it mounts to the turbo,
spaces it back 2 mm which ensures gate gets a good seal.

I did the same to my 2lt as this guy except I spaced out the gate 8 mm, and adjusted the boost with the fuel and added a top mount intercooler off a pajero, and went 3inch exhaust, with a egt gauge of corse to keep an accurate eye on things.

now not too toot my own horn but that could whip the skin off a rice puddng no worries, had 33s on it and used to pull off on 1kz surfs all day.
had it like this for bout 3years with no trouble till I pulled it out recently to drop in an 8.
gunna drop my old 2lt in to the missus 2wd hilux (one day haha)
