It would appear that this road is still "Closed" by Auckland Council and it looks as if they are not keen to reopen it. A small group of interested parties, including NZFWDA will be getting together to push to have the barriers removed by council ASAP. in the meantime, I would ask that people don't drive over or around the barriers as this action just tends to reinforce the opinions of those who support having it closed, especially if they are non road legal vehicles.
I will keep everyone informed as we make progress on getting this resolved.

I recall a sign at the entrance stating that a Maori tribe (can't remember which one) had granted access and opened the track to the public?

Surely with all this rain it is no longer a fire hazard...

It's a legal road that was opened up by locals to the annoyance of the forestry company and the Council. The forest land is being passed to local iwi when their treaty deal is signed.

We were on our way out to Wilson's on Sunday (28th) and saw a sign saying that the track was closed, just past Parakai.

Rang council to see if they could give us an answer, but no help...

Paid the money and went to the Woodhill park instead.
