Aftermarket Glow plug computers questions

Post by kbushnz »

Hi Yah All
Anyone running aftermarket glow computers....
Particularly for the 1KZ...
Only ask as this is the last thing for me to do to allow the removal of the factory ECU...
Looking at the 1KZ manual it has an afterglow period...
And some controllers are just on for a time and off....
And some full singing dancing with afterglow and hot start adjustments etc etc..
Do I really need all that?
Or just a push button to activate the relay and count to 10

If its just your truck, no reason why a button and relay wouldn't work just as well as a fancy ass temperature sensing timer.
I've got mine hooked up like that, well, kindof, its petrol but I've got the cold start injector hooked up that way as the timer was stuffed.

Have you thought of using a relay and timer from a 2l or 3l? heaps of toast surfs around that should be cheaper to do and alot less anoying than holding down a button everytime.

Just get the plug that goes into the timer and your set, easy enough to wire up and you have a factory glow timer thats automatic and cheap.

We use aftermarket adjustable glow timers at work that can do pulsed after glow. They have a temp sensor also to reduce glow when hot.
If you we're to try and use a 2.4 factory glow timer the time might not suit the 1kz plugs

The 2lt unit I have has an adjustable glow and afterglow period, 0-15 secs for glow and 0-10 pulses for afterglow, so can be changed to suit any requirements same as aftermarket

I just have a push button switch on mine. Push it in for a few seconds and away she goes. It is much easier to use. Plus for all the 1kz owners like me whose engines are indirect injection (all of them are) try starting your truck without them in the morning. You will be cranking for a month of sundays which then makes it a bit harder to steal.
