Post by john_gell.21 »

Hey guys I have a 90 series auto prado with a rebuilt (80000kms ago) 1kzte. Engine has been running great until yesterday, had been running around yesterday, then parked up for half an hour to grab some bits. On the tide home (approx ten min drive) a misfire developed that got do bad that it felt like its now running on 3 cylinders. Have checked yet fuel filter and appears fine. No visible leaks. Please help! Does it both at idle and under load. Any ideas please let me lnow

Hmmmm sounds awfully like what I have. It is definitely running on 3 cylinders now, rather than the random miss. I whipped the inter cooler off and couldn't see any leaking, but I know it doesn't take sweet fa for a miss to develop. Well it's off to the Workshop tomorrow, I don't want to start ripping things apart and void my warranty on the engine. Thanks for you opinions guys

To be 100% honest I have been too paranoid to take it off road yet. Today was meant to be the maiden voyage out to muriwai for a dune bash. I've been thinking of downsizing anyway, so look out for a swb prado on trademe shortly!

Strat it from dead cold and run a heat gun or at worst your hand along the exhaust manifold, one of them will be cold if it's running on 3 - make sure it's cold though as after awhile the heat will transfere and it will be hard to pick up, once you know what cylinder it is swap the injector and see what happens
