looking at getting a car with a radiator that has oil in it, so once i got the source of oil sorted what does one use to clean the oily sludge out of a cooling system, having search the web i came to conclusion that the wynns flush type of stuff aint the best, ideas?

Replace it, that is what Petone radiators told me because the oil will never be fully removed.

washing powder.

Just been through this with my patrol( trans cooler leaking ), radiator shop suggest washing powder, but ended up having to replace radiator.
Hoses were completely clogged with white gooey shit as well. Soaked them in a fish bin with a degreasor mixture & ran the washing powder mix thru the motor a few times draining & replacing each time.
Seems to have cleaned it out.

washing powder ae. that sounds like a idea mine due for a flush.
Is it ok to go through the engine though? like stick it in then take it for a long hard drive or leave it running?

I also herd costic soda good. A spoon of that in it and take it for a thrashing
softens everything drain it and hose it out.

Washing powder as mentioned above is often used but make sure you rinse/flush it well and some powders can be very corrosive

dont use costic soda ..has a very bad reaction to alloy ( loves to eat it and hard to stop ) Try a water based degreaser MS691..... works for me

It produces far less suds than laundry detergent.

But as mentioned before make sure you flush the system thoroughly..

you can actually buy a cleaner from rad shops to flush the system with, ive used it a few times now and works good.. cant remember the name though, but any good rad repairer should have it in stock
