Righto biting the bullet and going aftermarket oil pressure gauge.
Can anyone tell me what the maximum pressure they would see on the td42 at anytime?
Just so I know which gauge to get- 0-80psi, 0-100psi, or 0-150psi.

Cheers
Glenn

i havn't got the manual for that engine on me at the mo. but i think its probably around 80psi max. so go for a 0-100psi gauge.

not to sure, don't run the TD42 myself (zd30 instead). but i've switched over to gulf western J-power 15w-40 on the toyo. its running great, a lot less blowby to.
the j-power is a jap spec high ash oil so i think it would work well on the TD42.

Eek! A little thin for an engine that's done somewhere between 390-430k wouldn't you say?
Actual kms unknown due to ODO only increasing 90kms over last 3 owners.

i don't think its a 15w-20. penrite don't list one that i can see and 15w-20 is an odd spec oil. a 5-20 maybe or 15-30.
a 20 would give really low hot oil pressure when hot even on a fresh engine.

15w-40 would be a good place to start. maybe a 50 if its well worn and giving low oil pressure.
just remember that high oil pressure = low oil flow and flow is whats required to protect parts.

lol join the club

yeah 15w-50 is like pumping sludge. ok for a worn engine or hot climates but i would be running a 15w40.

I run tota,l mines down 230km I just turbos it 5000km ago and have not driven like a nana either! And seems to have a bit of blow by when stopped at the lights but has not dropped at all on the dip stick I run total in diffs, t-case and g box aswel the old girl just loves it. Not the cheapest tho but I don't mind paying little more for the good stuff when it's the blood of my td42
