Hi I have a 1999 3litre hilux diesel ute that I have removed the engine as it had a bit of a knock ...upon pulling it out I have notice that the spigot bearing on the end of the engine was totally chewed out ..... ball bearings were missing.
I have noticed that the input shaft on the gearbox has been damaged.
Can you pull the input shaft out of the bell housing end of the gearbox without having to totally strip the transmission?
I was wondering if the shaft was splined and slid overe another shaft inside the box......I realise I may be wishful thinking but a parts diagram sort of gives the impression it may be possible?
Hilux input shaft question
Re: Hilux input shaft question
I would say you are in for a gearbox split....
How badly damaged is the spigot? If thats what is wrong..
It only needs to fit snugly in the bearing.
Only there to support the end... So damage might not be a issue??
Throw up a photo...

Re: Hilux input shaft question
had the spigot bearing destroy itself and there is a bit of wear on the shaft that slips into the bearing inner. Only found it when pulling the motor out and was hoping to be able to remove it and have it repair/replace without having to completely pull the box apart....already got enough to do with the engine.
Box is still in the car .

Re: Hilux input shaft question
as long as the splines on the input shaft are ok (doubt they be damaged) you should be fine. you can prob get away with a bit of sand paper on the end of shaft and it'll be good to go. you dont wanna take much off though or the shaft will float around. This response based on not seeing a picture though

Yes I am looking at a speedy sleeve but do I have to totally dismantle the box to get it out?
