I've got a slight problem with my td42 diesel pump its developed a bit of leak I've cleaned it but can't seem to pin point where its exactly coming from on the pump other posts suggest top plate but cant really tell it takes a while for it to leak do you guys think it will be ok to drive around for a couple of months while I save up for a rebuild and the injectors done at the same time I've been quoted 2500 for the work to be done all I have to do is take the bits in what you guys reckon

by will i am
injectors recon normally around the $400 mark
wouldnt no a price on injector pump
i would start with just doing the top plate
think the seal kit is only $20 trade
and my boss drove his 2lt surf around for 2 years with a leaking diesel pump
was pissing out by the end, then got it rebuilt

That's expensive quote def get a few prices, be carefully driving it around as depending where the leak is it may start sucking air into the fuel system which will cause a lot of hassles an get to the point it will piss you right off

....I know from experience I also had the same idea would just keep driving, was all good until recovering boat in surf an she decided it was going to gulp air an loose all power.

I reckon that's a bit steep mate - I can reco your injectors to primo standard for $376-30 the set (or $396-40 if it's a turbo). Those injector pumps almost always leak from the top cover joint or the throttle shaft O-ring which you can replace yourself without removing the pump BUT you have to know what you're doing.

Link might be of use to you:
http://www.patrol4x4.com/forum/nissan-p ... diy-70932/Sounds like the $2500 guys may have given you the worst case senerio price..problem is they didn't even inform you it may just be a $25 seal..would stay away from them myself, unless of course they are bloody amaizing and somehow know that your pump is screwed.
I did a few seal kits on the 2lt-e surfs back when we went to low sulphur diesel and everyones pumps started droping diesel everywhere, quoted over $600 - went the the library got a few cross section drawings and did it at home for $40 worth of seals and a bit of my time.
Point is - some mechanics think they are rocket scientists when in actual fact they are just mechanics...

Just like some people think they're mechanics when in actual fact they have no idea.....
Not a dig at you personally, just pointing it out
Rebuilding an injector pump is not overly hard, but if you get something in the wrong place (which isn't hard to do) then it ain't gunna work!

Yeah the price quoted is very high I think aswell I might have to source from out of town to fix as the leak annoys the hell out of me but performance wise the truck runs massive might just get the pump done then do the injectors afterwards and take up the offer of injectorrod to do them just have to take a week off work to do it as its my only source of transport to work lol

I have an exchange set of injectors for TD42's which I can send you when and if they are available. You swap them over then send me your old ones. No extra charge for this - it just helps speed things up. I have a set for TD27T's also if anyone's interested. Cheers Rod.
