Jerry, the club running the event will have trouble finding marshals. That should of been sorted months ago.

Having marshalled at 6 NZ Dennys winch challenges, which lasted a week each, I think I know how difficukt it is to get peeps to marshal for an event - even international ones as the Dennys were.

Have for a while now been thinking about forming a Marshal Assn, where we train peeps in marshalling and then we offer our services to all the events around the North Island, for a fee. Just wondering how many peeps would be interested and could give their time up. Normally now the events are not as long as the Dennys were and so you would probably only need 1 day of work.

By forming a group the competitors would get some trained marshals at their events, and the organisers wouldnt have to worry so much.

What do you guys think - a good idea or not.

What some clubs did a while back was get the local lions/scouts/or similar group and get them to help. Have them start the hazard (usually fairly straight foward) then have the "trained person" at the point of dificulty to get the points (usually where the competitors argue that their front hubs ARE past the peg  )
Just another option maybe if you are really stuck. Dont recall many problems :?

 which is a hell of a lot more than I got last year  :D but hey I saw a lot of backwards roll overs on our hill climb.

What Manukau4wd does -did last year - is train Club Members as marshals and asks them to bring 1 or 2 friends as helpers - 45 helpers/marshals morning and afternoon - or all day if looked after

we are geting a bit of out side help, and have been trying for marshels for a while now but still need a few more. the problem is that most of the club are competeing so we have to go find the marshels elsewhere. we will get them.

Yep - you will get them - we only have two National Trial competitors and about 80 Club Members - so hopefully we won't have too many problems in February

Ok for those attending here is more info...

22nd October Aotea Block

Schedule
07.30am : Marshalls need to be here
07.45am : Marshalls Briefing
08.15am : Move out to Hazards*
11.30am : I will be delivering Lunch to all marshalls (large filled roll, slice + fruit + drink)
12.00pm : Lunch**
12.30pm : Late briefing for afternoon only marshalls if required
12.45pm : Move out to Hazards*
01:00pm : Lunch over deadwood continues
04.30pm : Finish time*

??.??pm : Prizegiving at Ngatoa Domain - Marshalls are invited to this, BBQ and Beer (Probably Speights knowing Ange)

* Plan is to give Marshalls rides out to Hazards
** NB Hazards may not be finished by comps so there may be a chance this is late on your hazard

What you need to bring:

Yourself
Snacks
Water/Drink
PRS 40ch Radio if you have one

If people need transport to the event put a post up and where you are and see if someone can catch a ride.

Marshalls are needed for the Hazards (1-30) as well as a couple to look after the pits, you have the option to stay on a hazard all day or swop at lunchtime. There will be sector marshalls controlling groups of hazards, There will be vehicles needing tows back to the pits, or competitors wanting eg tyres, there will be vehicles around to cater for this, recovery on hazards will be done by diggers or vehicles roaming round.

First aid and fire service will be onsite...

I will be carrying water and going round seeing if you are ok , if you need more water can fill it there and then. Will be delivering the lunches at 11.30ish....possibly earlier...

Weather:
Extended forecast appears to be showers http://www.weather.com/outlook/travel/b ... 9?dayNum=9 so wet weather gear is a good idea, it may be sunny as well so sunblock and a hat may be a good idea as well

There will probably be a work party the day before 21st for those interested, will confirm this...will involve pegging and marking off each hazard with tape etc...

TV3 may be there doing a 3 sport arena 4x4 thingy, Bobbi from the 4x4 Action mag usually turns up as well.

More to follow tomorrow....

But wait theres more......we are getting a free T Shirt

On Behalf of Windy City 4wd Club who were running this event thank you for those who were involved.....the day was wet and the mud was really porridgy, there were some issues however there are always issues in events such as this. as the afternoon wore on the amount of vehicles that went back to the pits

The competitors I spoke to appreciated your help and support and had a great day out....
