Quick question...
Can you bypass the knock sensor as per title.
If so how?
Cheers

unscrew it from the block and isolate from the block, leave plugged in

Yup that would be nice, but it triggers when the truck hits things...
And the engine wont run after that....
Have read on other forums for other vehicles that they have used a resistor in its place...
But can't find anything regarding the 3.8 VN

i would say it not the knock sensor being the issue, if it senses knock it retards the timing a few degrees, then brings it back in, if the motor is stopping or running real rough then something else is crook.

Okay to be specific and explain how these things work, If its sends anymore then 3 volts to the ecu it throws the R&R. No reading same thing.
depending on the year it can be down with a 3900 Ohm resistor or a transducer

wire the red wire to the ecu signal wire and the negative to a good ground. move it around the engine (tape it to the fuel rail for example) till it stops tripping R&R.
IF you are savy with programming ecu's you can stop the ecu from doing a start up system check including the knock sensor, then you can leave it unplugged..

Sweet thats food for thought....
Not sure if the sensor is getting old...
But basically we hit a tree.. Not too hard
The truck was still running, negotiated around it then turned it off to have a peek for any damage...
Went to start it again... Cough fart pop back fire....
Did the looksie under the hood and wiggled a few wires...
Ended up towing it out and putting it on the trailer...
After the owner talked to a few people... Pulled plug out of sensor and put it back in again...]
Fired first time and ran sweet....
Go fig...

Can u take a pic of what you unpluged
Its been sorted now... Old sensor was on the way out (original one)
Now has a newer one ...
Was sending erroneous readings to ECU...
